Default Game series that only have half of the series released

What I am referring to are game series which only get half of the series released.

    For example:

Suikoden series (PS1 / PS2) ~ The first two parts were both released in the UK, then the third part wasn't, but then they released part four...

Xenosaga series (Ps2) ~ In the UK we never got part one, but then they go and release part two... What was the point in that?

Shining Force series (Saturn) ~ Again, we only saw the first part of a three part series

Final Fantasy series (NES / SNES) ~ For years, western gamers missed out on half of the series (Number 2, 3, and 5), and Square confused everyone with their abnormal numbering system (Ie, FF4 was actually FF2 here, and FF6 was known as FF3) ~ It wasn't until FFVII came out, that everything righted itself...

Why do these companies do this? Suikoden I am especially angry about

From what i heard about Suikoden III, if they brought it over they would have to redo the dialogue text box because of the 50hz. I think the same went for Xenosaga. Thats what i heard anyways, and it sounds stupid if you ask me.
Another reason could be due to average sales in the US.

Rap Jam Volume #1 for the Super Nintendo.

So bad that #2 never game out.

J.R.R Tolkien's Lord of the Rings - Volume One for the Super Nintendo

Originally designed for the NES. Not as bad as Rap Jam, but still pretty shitty.

Yeah, what the hell did happen to Rap Jam Volume 2?

Shenmue probably falls into this category also, but Rap Jam was a much bigger loss!

I can understand them not bringing over a later release due to poor sales, but to skip a release seems, or to not convert the first of a series, and then to release the others seems stupid...

Parasite Eve. Another series where we wern't granted the first, but got the second. And to a lesser extent, I suppose we can also include Mario RPG seeing as Superstar Saga and Paper Mario are classed as sequels...

Shenmue 2 I have no idea about. They seemed to skip releasing a US version and went straight to the EU.

Ah, you're talking region -- Shenmue 2 came out at a Xbox game here. I thought you were talking series stopped before it ended -- Stuff like Rap Jam, which is funny although not exactly notable if we're being serious.

Honestly, I can't think of anything that falls into this category, other than Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior games...

These are fun little oddities in my opinion.
NES: Donkey Kong 1 and Donkey Kong 3 were released... but no Donkey Kong 2!
There are also a lot of gameboy games that have been released as ports of console games... not neccessarily in order. Megaman, for example.

I think Donkey Kong Jr. was really Donkey Kong 2 in Nintendo's collective mind.

Although... one could argue that part 1 and 3 star Mario while DKJ stars Junior, so perhaps you're right....

    I made no point whatsoever!

Oh and that psp game Legend of Heroes thats coming out... is actually the second game in the series. Makes you wonder why companies do things like that.

Advance Wars from what I understand has been around for quite some time (since the Famicom I assume) and had numerous sequels in Japan, being released as Famicom Wars originally, yet we didn't get to see a title until the original GBA version came out.

And come to think of it I believe Fire Emblem is the same way, a number of various releases in Japan and we didn't see it until the GBA release. Maybe they didn't think strategy games would do well here back then.

We got Valis and Valis III for the Genesis in the U.S., but no II.

Obviously, the Final Fantasy number mix-ups and skips.
It doesn't get any more serious than a Rhinocerus about to charge your ass.

We did get Valis II. It was just named "Syd of Valis"

Ah and we got Valis II and Valis III for the Turbo CD in the US but no I.

And then (Super) Valis IV comes out on the SNES.

But then all 4 Valis games are available on PC Engine.

Wow you posted like at the same time as me.

Anyways SYD Valis is an all new game with no relation to Valis II. More of a gaiden or side story to the Valis franchise.

I think it counts even if they are on other systems. Otherwise, couldn't we say that we didn't get Super Mario World and Mario 64 for the NES?

Oh really? Good to know. Going to change the description right now...

For NES these games are supposedly sequels:
    Goonies 2
    Defender 2
    Dig Dug 2
    Gargoyle's Quest 2
    Gremlins 2
    Impossible Mission 2
    Kings Quest 5

None of them have an official NES first version though I'm sadly wishing that Dig Dug and Goonies were released here in cart form.

Another good example would be the Ys series. Only a few came out in English.

    Anachronox

Shame that Ion Storm Austin went down the shitter because Romero is a crappy manager (I love his work in level design and he's a really comes across as a cool guy irl, but he had no buisness running a game company). Tom Hall's masterpiece will forever be half done :\

Beyond Good and Evil. Even though the game tanked, Peter Jackson played it and realized how badass Michael Ancel is. Maybe if King Kong does well then he'll be allowed to work on parts 2 and 3.... i wish

Ogre Battle. Ok, so Ogre Battle is part 7, Tactics Ogre is part 5, and I can't remember where Ogre Battle 64 fits in. Where's the rest of the games?

Unless you just mean games that were released in Japan and not in the US/Europe, in which case I'd cite ChoroQ HG. You Euros got HG3 but those of us in the glorious democracy of america were denied its awesomeness. I mean, it was nice to get HG2 (Road Trip) and HG4 (ChoroQ) as budget titles, but I've heard much of HG3's awesomeness (which is apparently not as awesome as HG2 but more awesome than HG4, which I thought was awesome).

Despite all of the Gundam games we get in the US, we've still yet to get Lost War Chronicles, which is apparently the bee's knees. Not sure if I should be sad about this yet, though...ask me after I get a chance to play Federation vs Zeon

Shin Megami Tensei. Thank fucking god they're finally bringing the MegaTen games to the US en masse. Damn shame we missed out on some real golden ones on Playstation/Saturn and earlier. At least we got Persona 1 and 2, if nothing else....but fuck me if I don't feel a little bit screwed for not getting Innocent Sin
