Default Midway Arcade cab at Target

    Hey,

I dunno if anyone's seen this yet: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000AQHKR0 , but it looks pretty cool, especially for $500 (pretty good for a NEW multigame, especially considering Ultracade prices). I doubt I'd buy one (I'd rather have all of the originals, plus I've never spent $500 on any game), but it's pretty interesting either way.

I wonder what the insides are like... is it a real JAMMA cab and real monitor, or just a crappy 13" TV with a JAKKS type PCB inside?

    "wizard of war"

man, as much as the concept of these multi-game machines turns me off, that is a tasty assortment of games. damn.

I'm a little skeptical, since in addition to the "War" instead of "Wor" blunder, the thing only weighs 96 pounds.

    96 pounds.

That's what the shipping dimension is. Perhaps it comes disassembled.

EDIT: 112 BUCKS TO SHIP? WHAT THE FUCK???

Yeah, I dunno if they're gonna have them in the store, but from what I've heard, I think they are. It also says that it can be returned to the store, so hopefully they will, and people won't have to pay massive shipping (and so we can actually see them in person).

The "full-sized" upright version is just a bit over five feet tall. Watch the joy on their faces as they break their backs just to hunch over this hunk of crap. I can't explain it, but I honestly hate this thing.

Additional A/V inputs allow almost any existing home video game system, DVD player, VCR or other A/V product to be easily plugged in and viewed on the built-in monitor.
For those days when you want to, oh I don't know, watch a movie standing up ...

It actually doesn't look like anyone older than 10 will be doing much standing up at these things. On the bright side, they're bringing Americans one step closer to sit-down Japanese Candy Cabs. All that's missing is everything good about them.

All this really is, is a really big TV Games joystick. People will buy them, gut them, and turn them into crappy MAME cabinets when for less money they could build the custom cab of their dreams.

I'm working on a MAME cocktail right now myself and all the wood cost less than $40 total. The control panels, including having them custom drilled, including the controls come to $70. An I-Pac runs about $40 from the right place. A new 17" CRT monitor about $100 or buy a used one at a flea market for $20. The computer itself to run the classic games can be had for $20. That's $230 and it can play ANY classic game via MAME, and with a little beefier CPU under th hood it'll play them all. Toss in $30 for a coin mech and you have an arcade at home.

BJ's Wholesale lists a unit similar to the link listed.

The Bj's version is 5'1" tall x 38" x 22" x 21". Plus it has 20 games not ten. The bj's catalog did not list all titles.

That looks a lot nicer than the Midway one, but 900 bucks is ridiculous. And no dial for Arkanoid? x_x
