    Default Q about reserve auctions.

Since when does eBay automatically up your bid to the reserve if you bid higher than said reserve?

It's been a while since I've bid on an auction with a reserve, so forgive me if this is the way it's always been.

I was the first bidder. So let's say the opening bid was $5 w/ a reserve and I bid $50 and the reserve was $30 so my bid becomes $30 automatically? Just incase my question wasn't clear.

It's always been like this. It's called "proxy bidding". So, if the reserve is $30 and you bid $50, it considers it that the current bid is $30. You know, if you bid $30, and someone bids $35 how the current bid might hop up to $32 or something. Ebay has bid increments, and anything over a certain increment is "saved" and ebay bids on your behalf up to the highest bid you placed.

    Heres some more info:

Yeah it's been like that for ages regarding bidding and reserve prices. If you go over the reserve with a bid, the high bid = reserve price.

I understand how bidding works. I guess in all the years of buying stuff there I've never been the person to meet the reserve first. Thanks.
