Darn, that sucks... Good to know, though. Guess I'll have to reconfigure my domestic shipping charges. Any word as to whether international rates will increase, too?

"This rate increase - the first since 2002 - is needed to fulfill the requirement of a federal law passed in 2003. That law requires the Postal Service to establish a $3.1 billion escrow account, with use of the funds to be determined by Congress at a later date. Without this federal mandate, it would not have been necessary to raise rates in 2006."

I'm not sure I believe that.....I think it's just a excuse myself....but whetever. We'll have to deal with it. It IS the first rate hike since 2002, so I guess that's not too bad.

Can be good to know, but c'mon.. Its just a few measly cents. I dont think the sellers on Ebay will increase their shippingrates alot because of this.

Probably due to gasoline jumping from $1.50 to $3.00 during last year. Still hovering around $2.25 which is costing USPS extra shipping expense.

No change to media mail charge? That's all I care about!

Still cheaper than UPS for most people. When I ship stuff for customers, USPS is normally cheaper for the same shipping time to most places in the US. UPS does include insurance of $100 though.

And tracking too... not that delivery confirmation crappy-excuse-for-tracking.

The cheapest I've found lately has been Fedex Home delivery. Get a few quotes online and see - they're pretty tough to beat. Same $100 insurance + tracking by default. Plus, they deliver on Saturday & you can drop off at any Kinko's.

Well, FedEx Home Delivery also has the worst, most unorganized package handling system I've ever seen. I know, I worked there for a little while. Boxes would get tossed around, crushed, slammed, spilled on, and no one gave a damn. If you couldn't fit it, you just didn't take it and that person had to wait another day... unless you couldn't fit it the next day, either.

All in all, it's a horribly managed company.

Yeah, I've never had a single problem with Fedex Home.
