New battery in Zelda, wont retain save game

My Zelda 1 for N64 recently stopped retaining save games after switching off. So I replaced the battery, but still nothing. Is the game toast? It still plays fine.




EDIT: I have tested the voltage on the old battery and it is 2.97 volts. The new one is 3.08 volts. So i am beginning to thing the battery was not the problem in the first place.

I double checked just now. I have the + to the top of the board and the - to the bottom and has continuity to the screw holes.

Im not sure if you meant the NES Zelda 1, although that doesnt quite look like an NES PCB. If perhaps you did mean that, did you remember to "hold reset while turning the power off"?

well.. ocarina of time isnt zelda 1, it's zelda 5 i think.. but that aside, i really dont think this is going to be a problem someone can instantly know the answer to. you need to test if the battery terminals actually connect to where they are meant to go in the end, and any components they pass through to get there. it probably isnt a great thing to start your electronics experience with.
if i had the game myself i'd take some photos of the board and mark places to measure on the image.. if youll take a photo of the whole pcb, back and front, ill do my best. and if i dont reply, feel free to pm me, as i may not find my way back to this thread.
