Default Using a Turbostick on a TurboDuo

So I just foolishly bid on a Turbostick joystick despite the fact that I don't own a Turbrografx; I have a Duo. It occurred to me after clicking "Confirm Bid" that TG-16 controllers aren't compatible with the Duo...on the surface at least.

Does anybody have any experience or ideas about maybe buying some kind of adapter to fit a Turbografx controller on a Duo? I'm most likely going to end up having to buy this thing, and it would probably be pretty cool if I could get it working.

Any assistance on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Forgive my naivety; what is gamesx? Is that a website? I googled it and I got a bunch of management/non-gaming related hits.

    Thanks!

    Hey, thanks!

So apparently I need to get an adaptor that has a female 8-pin DIN on one end and a male 8-pin mini-DIN on the other. I'm sure the shitheads at Radio Shack will have no idea what the hell I'm asking them about.

Thanks again, guys! Does anybody know of a place where I can special order parts like this?

You could just switch the cable for a 10 ft 8-pin mini DIN cable rather than make/use an adapter. Jameco sells the cable for $5 and change.

Will that require me to take the controller apart? Because I know that's going to end in tears...

Haha, yeah, unfortunately. But it's really the best option. You can buy a TG16->Duo adapter too you know. It's small and you can then simply plug the TurboStick into that. Can't find it at the moment on the web though.

Hmm...I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for that.

Okay, slightly off topic, but what the hell was NEC thinking by changing the DIN on the Duo? It's pretty lame that this is even an issue. Did they think people WOULDN'T want to use their Turbosticks on a Duo? Totally stupid. Okay, rant over.

I think you should ask why did they change the DIN on the TG16. Realize that all the Japanese systems, which came before and after the TG16, all use the same DIN connector as the US Turbo Duo.

Good point. But why be inconsistent in the US?

Wait, I figured it out: to screw you out of another $50 for a new Duotap.

Thanks again for all your suggestions!

even the morons at radio shack should be able to help you with an 8-pin din to 8-pin mini din cable. that is if they stock them.
otherwise it's quite possible i could actually build you one. so long as you pay all the costs plus shipping. shouldnt be a problem.

I doubt radio crack will have them but they should have the parts to make one. I'm not sore if there is a standard pinout for an adapter like that or if there is if the ports on the duo and TG16 follow that pattern.
The idea of changing the cable is good and probably the cheapest but if you ever get the "other" system it won't work with it.
I made an adapter cause I mainly use my duo but I also have a TG16 I hacked to play import hu cards.
