Default Playing PAL games on an NTSC N64?

Is there a mod that allows you to play PAL games on an NTSC (JAP) N64?. I am not talking about removing the tabs, I mean disabling the lock-out chip. Or is the passport adaptor the only option?.

I'd say import adapter is the only feasible option. The other option is to desolder the security chip from PAL N64, put it in your NTSC N64 and solder a switch between five (or was it six?) pins on the NTSC and PAL chips.
