Default State Of Emergency 2 hitting PS2 and PSP

In news that I assume very few will care about, State Of Emergency 2 has been announced for the PS2 and PSP. From Kotaku:

State of Emergency 2 is hitting stores in the U.S. in February. The sequel to the over-the-top anarchy simulator will hit the Playstation 2 and PSP.

The sequel takes place four years after the original, but basically has the same plot. The new game will include lots of vehicles like helicopters, tanks and speedboats for different types of combat, the ability to switch players and interrogate the enemy and five new multiplayer modes for up to four players.

I wonder a) how long it'll take for this to hit the bargain bins and b) how soon it'll be before Jack Thompson makes a big deal about it.

Is it wrong of me to say that I actually enjoyed playing state of emergency? It's definately not worth the full price or anything, but for some quick violent arcade run n' gun? Good deal.

The first one, in all honesty, wasn't that bad. It was impressive technically, and was fun for awhile. Granted, I rented it when it came out and didn't pay $50 -- which it isn't worth. That being said, I'd definately keep an eye on the sequel if they do the following:

    1) No stupid escort missions. Crap.
    2) Make the environments more destructible.
    3) Be able to carry more than one weapon.
    4) Do a multiplayer mode worth a damn. Co - op? Oh yes, that'd be sweet.
    5) The graphics need some updating. None of this GTA-state of the art circa 2001 stuff.
    6) More blood. This might sound ridiculous, but in a game like State of Emergency, I want bodies to absolutely shroud the screen in gore, splatter the screen, fill in the streets...you get the idea.

I remember renting State of Emergency a long time ago. I got bored really quickly and never bothered to try it again. For a bit of mindless fun, it could make a good PSP game.

    I will wait for reviews.

I loved the first one. This is the perfect 10min handheld game. Right on.

Does anyone at Rockstar realize what a huge disapointment the first one was for so many people. Yes it sold well but it was very hyped up as the next GTAIII. They won't be fooled twice. This game will have to be balls to wall if its to be anything but a big O flop.

Rockstar isn't publishing the sequel. It was originally to be handled by the now-deceased bam!, but SouthPeak recently picked it up. (Vis is the developer.)

Question to those who didn't like state of emergency : what version did you play? The xbox one was fun-ish, and had like, a bit fo a story and missions to it.

This begs the question, why PS2? Wasn't the big deal with the first one that they crammed a bunch of shitty looking models on the screen and skimped on gameplay?

I get the desire to "redo" the game and fix the widely lauded problems, but wouldn't it be so much easier to do on next gen hardware that could really push the idea to the max?
