Default Gekioh: Shooting King vs. Strikers 1945 II

Which is better? Having recently purchased the Capcom shooters on Dreamcast (Gigawing, Gigawing 2, and Mars Matrix) and Silpheed on PS2, I'm looking to try another modern shooter that is a) easily acquired and b) inexpensive.

I picked up Gekioh the other day at Circuit City, and I think it's pretty decent. It ain't pretty, but it held my interest. I just want to know if Strikers is really worth the twenty bucks everyone is charging for it, and will it recreate that feeling of contentment I used to get from my uncle's copy of 1943 for the NES...

Also, any decent shooters for the Game Boy Advance?
Currently catching up on PSN, WiiWare, Wii U E-Shop and Xbox Live Arcade exclusives I missed.

Strikers is damned good...not as good as the Saturn one of course...but for $20 instead of $50+, you can't go wrong...especially if you like the series. And it did come out at $30 new, so that's not an unreasonable price

Too bad there aren't more modern shooters...you REALLY should get Ikaruga though...whether you get the US one for GC when it comes or the import..either way it RULES! Also might be worthwhile to get Gradius 3 & 4 for PS2 and Rez for PS2, as well as Panzer Dragoon Orta for XBox. Few more shooter ideas there, but not inexpensive ones.

As for graphics...Gekioh IS a port of Shienryu for the Saturn, so it prolly doesn't look as good as the Saturn one. Not a big shock there.

Finally...for GBA...the only shooters I know of are Robotech (supposed to be decent), Gradius Galaxies (ok shooter), and Phalanx (just like the SNES one). Hope that helps!

Thanks, Max. I'm waiting for Ikaruga for GC, but the stores around here won't let me put a pre-order down on it yet. If I can find a used copy of Strikers, I might pick it up. I saw the arcade version in play the other day, and it looked pretty decent.

No problem! I've always loved the Strikers series, as well as the 194X series. Just good solid vertical shooters...every one of em.

    And you'll love Ikaruga!

I haven't played Gekioh yet, but Strikers 1945 II was my fave Saturn shmup for a loooong time. Psycho is kind of a "love them or hate them" kind of developer, but if you like the insanity factor, and like the tribute to Capcom's 194X series, it's excellent!

(Man, I need to get off my duff and get Gekioh!)

Yes, Strikers 1945 II (PSX, confusingly renamed Strikers 1945 by Agetec, for U/C release, curse them!) is worth $20.00, especially if you don't have a JP-compatible Saturn and a TV to flip on its side (U.S. rev gets no tate love).

I always misspell Psikyo. I'm not too smart.
