Default DS game piracy on eBay?

Heard about "Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan" this morning, and decided to see what availability and pricing is like on eBay right now. Then I see over a dozen auctions originating from Hong Kong, which I've flagged in the past as a pirate cart, due to GBA bootlegs being the norm.
I've never heard of this on the DS platform, though. Anybody know if these are actually legit, or are there DS bootlegs out there, now?

Well they aren't selling them cheaply in terms of what pirate GBA carts normally go for. In general, I haven't heard any pirate DS sales just yet. You could always just order through LikSang or PlayAsia to be safe.

Hey - does DS use a disc or cartridge format?

It's like a small card, but I guess they're considered cartridges. And poe, I bought a few DS carts from Honk Kong sellers on eBay and they were all legit and were at good prices. Don't get worried about them yet.

What I recommend you doing is check out the other items the seller is selling as well if the item location is in China. If you see the person selling GBA games as well for suspiciously low prices, the chance of that DS game being a pirate as well is good. Just because it costs more doesn't mean it can't be a pirate. It just means it costed them more to make pirate DS games.

I thought DS games -couldn't- be pirated at the moment. Have people finally figured out how to do so?

They can't be pirated in a commercial sense at the moment. You can flash a GBA cart or a CF/SD card using the M3 adaptor or something similar. But it's a hassle (you need to flash your DS's firmware or use a passme card in the DS's cart slot. Though I'm sure it'll happen soon enough!

The biggest reason the games are so cheap in HK is because there is no real tax to pay on goods. Yay for the free market!!

Yah, here in Malaysia they sell pirates of EVERY type of game -- GB, GBA, Xbox, PS2, FC, SFC, DC -- even newer stuff like GameCube and PSP. I've yet to see a pirate DS game.

Maybe it's the lo-tech reason for being so cheap -- stolen. 'Coz if DS piracy were at all profitable these guys would be all over it....
