Windows 95 on PSP

I've read at a few sites that you can run Win95 on your PSP, if so, can I run games on it? Some of my older games hate my new computer for some reason, and I'm hoping this could be a solution.

Looks like you can do it with Bochs. I'd be amazed if it were actually fast enough to handle any games more demanding than Minesweeper and Solitaire, though.

I'm stunned that someone would take the time to create a Windows environment on the PSP. Actually, maybe not stunned. It's more of a "why?" situation I guess.

I believe this falls under the same category as questioning Doom on the iPod.

Pretty much, I would say it's one of those things they thought they could do but it's all good

I think it takes the PSP just a couple of hours to boot to the desktop, so I think the idea of playing games is pretty much out of the question. Maybe the x86 emu will be improved over time, but I don't see the point really. This was just done to prove it could be done.

I think it takes the PSP just a couple of hours to boot to the desktop, so I think the idea of playing games is pretty much out of the question. Maybe the x86 emu will be improved over time, but I don't see the point really. This was just done to prove it could be done.

The guy who did it says 10 minutes.

Yeah I heard it runs really slow. Back to the Doom thing the guy just wanted to proove that it could be done. I mean what system hasn't had it's share of Doom

No parallel port on a PSP either.

Isn't that how long it took Win95 to book on a 486 normally?

uhhh the windows 95 is emulated and not really running on the psp so thats why its even slower.

Well, Microsoft *did* release a usb patch for 95, which actually worked quite well for me (usb mouse) back when I still used it on a spare box.

Regardless, I don't see this becoming practical in any way. Emulating x86 code on a mips r4000 cpu has *GOT* to be painful.

It is concievable that the Linux crowd could cook up a nice brew that is custom-made for the PSP (USB, Correct video size, firefox browser, full media support, etc) .. there are already native linux versions for Mac, PS2, etc, etc that aren't x86 OSes being emulated.

I stand corrected, I read about this months ago, and I guess time exagerated that figure in my head. By a lot. =)

And no, it didn't take a 486 10 minutes to boot Win95, in fact I had a 386 that would do it in less than 5.

It's Bochs!! Yes, it's cool and has interesting potential uses, but it will crawl along even if you run it on a P4!

lol my brother hacked the onboard nav system in his acura TL, has several games, a screensaver, wallpaper, etc now. No doom yet though.
