    Default Sega question

I just got a sega genesis the other day and was trying to hook it up. It had two cables but it looks like I am missing the video cable. I went to radio shack and bought one but it did not fit. Where can I get this cable I need?

Which Genesis do you have? There are 3 version and I think they each have their own unique RF jack.

As far as I know, the original Genesis (the biggest model with the headphone jack and volume control) just used a regular run of the mill RCA jack. You can pick one those up anywhere they sell video and electronic equipment.

My guess is you have the second model Genesis, tho, in which case it had its own special RF cable. It looks a little something like this:

The RF connection pics are torwards the bottom.

You should only need two cables to play the genesis--power and RF. What do the two cables you have look like? Perhaps whoever you bought it from gave you an RF cable for a different model.

As to where you can find one, I'm sure someone on these boards has an extra they can sell to you. Otherwise I see them at Goodwill from time to time (not consistently, but they're not uncommon either), so you could try your luck with some thrift store hunting.

I have the one with the volume control...what cord is it I need? It looks like a larger S video type cable goes into the back of it

You need the RCA Cable that is no longer used by today's standards. Yet Ebay is loaded with them.

What you need to find is either an AV Cable for a Neo Geo AES or Genesis Model 1 AV Cable.

Just look under the accesories video game section of Ebay
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

    Oops--I guessed wrong. :P

Here's a pic of yer Genesis, then:

Can't really see the RF cord that well.

You don't have to use the large s-video looking jack you're talking about. You can use the RF jack to the left of it. I'm almost positive that all you need is a standard RCA cable and a switchbox with and RCA Jack with coaxial cable output (or some other means to plug your RCA cable into your TV.)

I'll just shut up fer now and let someone who knows more about the Genesis chime in. Good luck!

if you have a regular nes (the little grey box that connects to the tv) you can just use that to connect it.

Only bad thing about RF is the signal quality. The first one is your pinout on this link. These wires arnt that hard to find on ebay. BTW if your looking for stereo sound, youl have to either add stereo speakers and plug them in the front headphone jack or get an inexpencive Headphone to Phone plug wire. I say this because both the RF and the Multi Out (Huge S-Video Looking) Only produce Mono Sound.
