    Default Resident Evil Series

I horror and scifi/horror are my favorite genres in both movies, books, television and videogames.

Resident Evil is the most promament in the horror and scifi/horror genre.

The first Resident evil was kick ass back in the day.

By time the second one came out they made the mistake of using the same game engine to which is till applied to this day with Resident Evil 4.

I really always hated they way the characters that you control in the games move. I would prefer a more fluid game engine like in Tomb Raider.

Is it just me or are there other peeps here that think Capcom needs to update the game engine for Resident Evil for better character movement?

Wait a second... First of all the words Tomb Raider and fluid dont belong together.

Second Resident Evil 4 is nothing like the other games. Same game engine? Are we playing the same games here?

    .....ummmmmmmmmmmm What?

RE4 has a whole new control scheme and is both fluid and easily controlled.

Also I hated the way the original Tomb Raiders played but was one of the few that actually liked the Gameplay of RE1 up to REmake and RE0 while not the greatest it was much easier than the original TR games clunky as controls.

Yeah... RE4 is very different than the rest.

And a masterpiece, in my opinion.

Perhaps there is dismay because in RE4, Leon must still stop to shoot, cannot strafe, jump easily, or sprint. Personally though, I think RE4's control scheme allows for just enough controlled movement to make it still a survival/horror as opposed to a FPS.

How about same style? When I speak of game engine. I'm talking about the movement of your character and game camera angles. I know you can zoom in on a village, but it's still alot like the first. Just different story line, better graphics and option layout different in accessing stuff.

I prefer better walking, running and turning. I like to see better climbing. I would like jumping.

The original tomb raider on my game system did control/move better..

I'm not talking about tomb raider being a better series.

but you honestly can't compare the control scheme in RE4 to the control scheme in tomb raider they are two totally different games

I really like both control schemes but something like that wouldn't work in an RE game IMO

You can sprint by holding square while moving. (PS2)

But yeah, Resident Evil controls are MUCH better than the controls of Tomb Raider, especially RE4.

    How far have you played?

It has walking, running, and turning (B button for all of these). The new RE allows you to climb and jump when the action button shows up.

Yes, you are definitely right - the Resident Evil controls for 4 are pretty much the same as they always had been. It just works better than it used to thanks to the quick turn (taken from the Resident Evil remake on GameCube) and the camera angles. I think it's nice, as it keeps the game from feeling like other 3rd person games with controls relative to the camera (as opposed to absolute/relative to the character, where up moves them forwards no matter where the camera is).

I'm referring to real time actions for climbing and jumping.

Quick turn was actually in Resident Evil 3. Can't remeber if it popped up in any of the other RE incarnations, but im 100pct sure it was in 3, thats why i liked 3 so much.

Huh. Actually, yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right now, as I played a bit of the time attack options in 3 (PC, but the key would've been in there). I thought the city backgrounds in 3 were kinda lousy, actually, but I'll have to see again...the game had a lot to live up to after 2's spectacular areas.

See, I might agree with you. I loathed every RE until RE4. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to love them, but couldn't. I own RE1 on the Saturn, RE Code Veronica on the DC and just couldn't hack it. I had no fun running to one end of a room, blasting at zombies I couldn't really see, miserable aiming and if somebody came up behind you? Good night nurse. I would've loved to see a control scheme like Tomb Raider (Which is awsome when you consider what else was available at the time) RE4 really turned things around. I'd say it's the greatest game I've ever played. Now running to one end of a room doesn't feel useless, it feels like I'm making a stand. The over the shoulder allows me to see what's going on. Up is always forward, down is always backwards. It's superb.

My RE4 complaint: You still have to stop, go to menu, select weapon, then go back to combate anytime you want to switch weapons. I'd like to see a way to switch weapons/items that didn't make you go into the menu

Code Veronica, REmake, RE Zero, RE2 (Some verisons of RE2 have this, but I noticed the Cube port does not) also have the quick turn/ 180 degree turn as well
