Default One has to go: Saturn or Dreamcast

I've been thinning out my collection lately for two reasons, one to get rid of some stuff that I don't feel are essentials, and to funnel some of the money back into collection what I like.

I've gotten rid of pretty much everything I want to so far, but I've come toa wall. I have both a Creamcast and a Saturn, and only want to keep one. But I'm having trouble deciding which.

I don't really have an extensive collection for either, but I do have most of the hard to fing RPG's for the Saturn, and since I'm a big RPG fan I'm leaning towrd this system.

whichever system I keep though, I plan on modding and getting into importing. So I'm looking for advice on what you guys thing is the btter rounded system.

Money ins't too much of an issue because I won't be trying to get complete sets, or even buy a whole lot of games for either, so I would mind spending $100-200 on a single game once or twice a year.

What system do you guys think offer the best selection of fun, U.S and import titles.

Also right now that only things are are making me hang onto my DC are emulation, Jet Grind Radio and Shenmue.

Honestly, I love them both, but if I had to choose between the two, I would pick Saturn all the way. I am a 2D gamer at heart, and despite graphical weaknesses, it has nice conversions of most of the good AM2 Model 2 games.

Both systems are great, but keep the Saturn. Especially if you like shooters.

Saturn I would have to agree on

As for your DC, if you plan to sell it, what games do you have?
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

If you're going into importing then the Saturn is the way to go. The domestic Dreamcast (Creamcast?) library is so much better than the Saturn's domestic games, though. I love my Saturn and it had some great games released for it in the USA, but the Dreamcast was much stronger in terms of stateside releases.

    Keep both, man, keep both!

    I'd keep the Dreamcast!

-Able to still get games at dirt cheap prices
-Good time to collect DC stuff before it's gone
    -A great multiplayer system
    -Limited online play(it's fun!)
    -Awesome selection of games...

Jet Grind Radio, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Shenmue 2, Soul Calibur, PSO v.2, Outtrigger, MDK2, PowerStone, PowerStone 2, Space Channel 5, Toy Commander, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Ikaruga, Expendable, Quake 3, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Capcom vs SNK 2, Maken X. Just to name some of my favorites...

I would keep the DC alright, but since you said that you had some of the high dollar Saturn games... That might make it a different choice.

Both are great and I couldn't get rid of either, but since you are into RPGs, Keep the Saturn...

You said three things that I want to point out in what made me suggest this:

    1) ...and to funnel some of the money back into collection what I like.
    2) Money ins't too much of an issue because I won't be trying to get complete sets.
    3) So I would mind spending $100-200 on a single game once or twice a year.

Why don't you hang onto both then? If you're not planning on getting to much for either system, you can spend most of the money on the Saturn imports, but you can hang onto the Dreamcast and get one or two awesome games for about $10.00 each year.

Besides, if you sell your Dreamcast you won't get much for it. The system commands between $20-30.00, and most of the games between $2-10. The Saturn would net you more in a sale.

Oh yes, and as for importing you don't even need to mod the Dreamcast for imports. You just need a boot disc that you can either purchase for under $20.00 or burn.

So that's my suggestion -- keep both, just buy games for them both slowly.

id keep the saturn just becasue of all the shooters on the system - no other system compares when it comes to that - and nice looking 3d games exists on the ps2 and xbox if you have those - so id have to let the dreamcast go if i had to

Answer your own question. I'm not you, why should I know what you'd like?

As others have said, though, you can cut back without getting completely rid of one system. Surely you've got a little space set aside in a corner somewhere for a system and a handful of games...

I'll second Goatdan's point... unless it's a matter of space, then selling the DC wouldn't net ya much.

As much as I love the DC, if it's one or the other, and you must have RPGs, then you're prolly better off with the Sat.

It's a shame that my fav genre and fav system so rarely met to form good games.

If it's a decision that's hard enough for you that you want our opinion, then no matter which system you get rid of, you are going to regret it later. They don't take up that much room. If you don't want to play it, box it up and put it away.

What he said. It'll still be waiting for you next time you're jonesing for it. I try never to get rid of a system unless I absolutely have to. They stow away pretty easily.

Personally I like the Dreamcast much better than the Saturn. That being said, I would probably still keep the Saturn just the same only by virtue of it being the older/rarer of the two systems. And if you ever decide you want to get back into DC then it seems like there are plenty of them floating around and still relatively inexpensive. But bear in mind you may only have a 1 or 2 year window in which to do this.

And as long as you mentioned modding, make sure your Saturn is one that can be modded (i.e. - one round buttons on the console instead of oval), otherwise you're going to find yourself scrambling for a 2nd machine.

Keep the Dreamcast. It still has the best console fighters (besides NeoGeo) and has a growing fan base.

I think I'm gonna take the advice of many and box up the DC for the time being, and not buy anything for it so I can focus on my other collections.

Then if say a year or so from now I'm still not missing it, I'll sell it and put the money toward Saturn stuff.

Good Idea, Better keep both, it's a dead heat as for as Killer games on either systems go, and DC also has some serious shooters! Border Down, Ikaruga, Rez, Mars Matrix ect.. and another New one is on the way.

Dreamcast is the sleeper this gen while the mainstrean blew it off for their PS2's.
