Default ps1 memory card not working on ps2 slim

I already tried 4 ps1 memory cards on my ps2 slim and not work

2 of my memory cards looks like original, comes in an box, manual, all japanese, gray psx version, but I don't know if are really original

    other 2 are third party

Anyone with same problem? Which version of ps1 memory card I can use in my ps2 slim? All of 4 memory cards works perfectly in my older ps2 (big one)

I am not 100% certain, but I believe I read on the SCEA forums that only offical PS1 memory cards would work on the slim PS2

i've got cheapy toys'r'us brand ones, they work fine in my slim

of course a SCEA forum would say that, why would they promote a 3rd party?

That is bizarre... I only use officials, and I've never had trouble.

This problem isn't uncommon, some people of SCEA have same problem, many third parties memory cards doesn't work in ps2 slim

Wait...my PS1 memory cards don't even work in my launch date PS2. I always thought this was normal, just one of Sony's half-assed attempts again. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

It seems almost random to me. I have 5 PS1 memory cards (2 offical and 3 third party) and all but one of the third party cards work in my PS2 (mine is a launch unit too). Now its strange because all the third party cards are the same brand, but that one just refuses to pop up.

It's probably the same thing with the slim units.

Hey, found the thread - post this stuff in the Technical and Restoration Society next time for faster responses! I'm going to post some of the stuff that I repsonded to that Arthur e-mailed me directly about.

"...However if you were to ever open up a third party PS1 memory card and then do the same to a Sony branded memory card you'd see they are ratically different and made of thinner and cheaper circuit boards - heck, even the different year releases of the same brand third party memory cards (Madcatz for instance) have ratically different internal designs...

...Like I said, there are so many revisions and different types of chips used in the cheap third party cards, and they are so prone to causing physical damage eventually - that I would get some official Sony branded PS1 memory cards and transfer all your PS1 data from the third party cards to them with your PS2 and then use the Sony branded cards for playing PS1 games in your PSTwo.

The third party PS1 cards were made so cheaply and of such random parts that it's not surprising that eventually they would no longer be compatibile with one of the console designs, however this is the first time I've actually heard of it..."

And for the record my third party PS1 cards (I only use one of them still, a Performance Memory Card 2X, in my chipped PS1) work in my PSTwo - wouldn't use them though for various reasons I point out here...
