Default REPORTER DOING STORY: How drug use enhances gameplay

Hi -- I'm a reporter doing a story for a top gaming magazine on how stimulants (caffeine, energy drinks, etc.) and other drugs impact gameplay. I'm looking for some first-person accounts from people who've tried various substances while playing computer games (advanced games like Everquest are good) and how it impacted you. Do you play better, longer, etc. or not notice much change? What's the connection/draw? I've found some threads on this here on the board but want original comments for the story. Please feel free to post here -- I'm hesitant to post my email address on a public forum for obvious reasons -- you don't need to give your name or other personal details, just basics like age and city/state and what games you're referring to. Be aware your comments in this thread may be used in the story. Hope to get some good input here! Thanks in advance.

you make it sound like substance abuse and gaming go hand in hand, this isn't major league baseball here...

What "top gaming magazine" are you writing for? Why don't you post in that magazines forum instead of this one?

I wish you luck with the story. It sounds a bit lame though. Why don't you focus your story on some real drugs like some coke or H and try em out for yourself.

Put some coke on your tip, get a blowjob from a crackwhore, play some GTA. It'd be an interesting read.

yeah, what the heck? I drink mt. dew while I play games, cause it tastes good.

then it makes me go super saiyan lvl. 3, and my focus increases +10. so then I can pwn noobs on Halo 2.

anyway, I'm not serious, but are you?

    (must be "game informer," right?)

Coffee, Code Red Mountain Dew, Sparkling water, and maybe a beer or two if my friends come over.

Dude, you are SERIOUSLY wasting your time with this story angle.

Be aware your comments in this thread may be used in the story.
Be aware that, without permission and clarification from the original writer, all you're doing is copying and pasting some anonymous Internet posts into your article, making a very bad judgement call and an inaccurate-as-Hell article. If the thread was filled with "I inject heroin directly into my eyesocket before playing Doom 3" comments, would you use those? Or would you try to get some confirmation first?

Truthfully, you'll get better results going to the local game store or Internet cafe and asking people face to face than you will posting an anonymous query to a bunch of faceless liars like us.

while i think its good that your asking us gamers, why focus on a negative? why not do a story on the posatives of gaming- increased reading ability, hand eye coordination, the ability to work around problems systematically (sp?) or how about that kid who can beat other kids at fighting games-and he's blind! as sad as it seems, i think only a negative article about the perils of gaming is "newsworthy"... very sad..

Weed + Games = Bad. You end up not caring about your score.

PCP + Games = Bad. You end up putting your fist through too many television screens.

Acid + Games = Bad. Too hard to hold the controller after you shrink.

Meth + Games = Bad. You end up selling all your games for more meth.

Heroin + Games = Bad. Can't stay awake to finish them.

Beer + Games = Bad. Actually it's pretty good until someone either spills a beer on the couch or inevitably pulls the controller too hard and sends the console crashing to the floor.

Cocaine + Games = Not Likely. Very few people who have access to cocaine sit around at home playing videogames. In fact the only reason I play games is because I can't get any cocaine.

I find that my "Super Mario" skills are increase tenfold after i snort some coke off a hookers stomach.

    Anyway...

I'd agree that using a forum isn't a good source.

Well then, I guess I'll look elsewhere... This isn't as "empty" as some here make it sound -- there's a scientific aspect too -- I was just hoping to get some general reactions from actual gamers after seeing another thread, not primary sources. Thanks anyway!

Maybe not, but in a world where we have to protect our hobby from gloryhoods looking create wild stories simply to feed their own selfrighteous ego (READ: Jack Thompson, Lying Liar), we just simply can't trust anything this vague.

If you wanted us to give you some details you should've given us some details. Like you're name, title and employeer. Trust begets further trust.

    That's life.

Further more if you want to speak to real gamers try going to any of the major conventions or hell, even hitting up small game stores (like the DP Store) and talking to the people there. They are the real gamers.

i believe you just got your general reactions, the majority don't support or participate, and those who do are under the influence before, during and after, which has no bearing on the activity or any "scientific aspect" as it wouldn't matter what they were doing at the time.

i just hope that your "top gaming magazine" isn't one that i read, because things blown out of proportion tend to get negative publicity and add fuel to the fire for all those lobbyists who see gaming as a violence-inspiring concern, not for the fun, educational pastime like it is.

As a physicist, allow me to retort:

so, what was your hypothesis? and what experiment did you construct to test it?

OH WAIT! maybe you are a sociologist?

It sounds like to me he's trying to write an undergrad paper and he's too lazy to look up stats or find them elsewhere on the internet. My term papers or the essays had to have credible sources stated in a bibliography, that was usually as long as the paper itself.
A forum is not credible since we just shoot the shit for the most here, me being the shit of course (Bobcat whats-his-name said that once).
Brother if you are reading this. Go crawl up a sociologists ass and ask people who get paid by the gov't to answer dumbass questions with half ass answers. Sorry about the curse words fellas! Good gravy man go yank on some librarian's eyeglass chains than ask us dumb questions like that. That's just plain irritating.

actualy viagra and gameing go well together - when you need that 11th finger to help you beat the final boss
The human operates out of complex superiority demands, self -affirming through ritual, insiting upon a rational need to learn, striving for self-imposed goals, manipulating his environment while he denies his own adaptive abilities, never fully satisfied.

I find that there are much more enjoyable things to be doing under the influence of drugs than playing videogames.

    Nevermind

I suppose certain things shouldn't be publically posted

I will however go on record as saying that WoW and a pot of coffee will keep me up late into the night or early into the morning.
