I think I'm closest to the 'Hard Core' gamer, but it doesn't match me completely. And I kinda resent their thing about marriage...I don't think that's accurate at all.

I don't like the word "GAMER". You wouldn't call someone that collector movies a "MOVIER" would you?

I don't play games much at all, which would classify me as a casual gamer. OTOH, I don't just buy or play shovelware as implied in the essay. I just don't have the time or interest for MMORPGs or anything else that contains the letters RPG, but those genres don't define the words "innovative" or "genre-defying" in my book. The games industry has its work cut out for them when it comes to captivating people who don't care much for elves and ogres running around in forests.

The funny thing is, one of these categories defines my roomate to a T, clueless gamer. He is quick to pull out the gameshark or action replay just because he is having difficulty in a game, either that or he will just stop playing it altogether.

Me, I guess I would be a hardcore gamer. They described me pretty well. I have some friends that will smoke me in a few random games (those guys are definately devoted to super smash bros and madden), but I know if we got 5 random games from my collection, even if they were games I don't play very often, I would light them up.

As for knowledge about games, sure I know a buttload, but I don't go around acting like I do. If somebody asks me a question about something that has to do with gaming, I will answer it, but I will never go off bragging about how much I know about games.

    Default Casual Gamer?

I loved the article, but I think there should be a new category: the "devoted game collector". Sometimes I don't have time to play games regularly. So I just collect, and play games during school breaks.

Well that is all I have to say. Err.. yeah.
I love buying stuff now, that I could never afford in the past!!!

I would have to agree the most here, I collect more than I play for sure, although I can't say that I'm a "hardcore" gamer because I also spend alot of time collecting and watching movies.

I think I'm some wre between PHC and Casual, as far as gaming goes. Collecting is another story...

Oh, and btw, "Timmies" are'nt all that bad; It just depends on what there doing (for example, If a group of people are modifying an old game to release the hack online just for the fun of it, then they're probably nice guys; whereas if a person steals the beta of a soon to be released game and makes an X-amount of copies of it for profit, then he's usually the type of guy that you'd want to stay-away from.)

You're going to have a rough time here, then.

I'm definitely a clueless gamer. If a game's controls are overly complex, I'll just give up and move to some other game. That may be why I like old games so much

Of course I'm the Worthless type.

Hmm, article seems a bit self-congratulatory. A bit too hard on people who play Solitare, for example. If somebody doesn't want to try out new things, well, that's really their perogative...

With 1400+ games, hard to believe it, but I am absolutely a casual gamer. It's just something to do when I'm not playing board games.

Without even looking at the article (just glancing at some of the comments) I would guess I'm a casual gamer and have no problem with that. I certainly don't play games as much as I used to.

On the other hand I might be quite the hardcore DVDer

    I think you mean "movier".

According to that article, I'm probably a casual gamer.

None of those really worked for me. I guess I have a bit of "Devoted Gamer" in me, but the object of my affection changes frequently.

I've never cared enough about the business end of the industry to be considered "Hard Core," but I am somewhat knowledgable in a multitude of systems and genres. Does that make me "Pretend Hard Core?"

Where's the "Just likes to play fucking games and never throws shit out" section?

Lemme see, I spent my afternoon in front of a Vectrex with a video camera rolling.

I think that makes me a hardcore casual gamer. And quite possibly clueless too. :P

Clueless gamer. I'm playin' an Odyssey2. Don't get much more clueless than that.

Dude, they should have seriously put Kissinger and Nixon in their own reality/sit-com show. It would be like the odd couple.

Nixon: Is that chairman Mao on the phone?
Kissinger: Yes, but you can't speak to him, you're too drunk right now.
