Time will be when the broadest river dries
And the great cities wane and last descend
Into the dust, for all things have an end
I was quite underwhelmed by Metal Slug 3. I hate that "smoothing" filter and the standard controller is absolutely horrible for this game. For the amount of money I would need to invest in getting a good controller for this game, it just doesn't pay for me. Furthermore, some of those achievements are absurd. Beat the final stage without dying? That will take some time, friend. Granted I have my MVS copy (and now I know why they never made MS3 backward compatible), but I won't be dropping another $10 for this one.
I've been excited at the prospect of this one for awhile (up there with Rez HD and the rumored Ikaruga), so I'll be eagerly awaiting this download.
Metal Slug 3 was tempting, but besides seeing all the flaws in it, I already have it on the original Xbox and the Wii MS Anthology, so that's $10 I can't justify.
I have 3000 points reserved for this and Rez HD.
I was surprised (in a good way) at the 800 point price. The videos of Omega Five look quite spectacular. I'm sure Rez HD will be 1200 points, which I'll gladly pay.
And I thought Ikaruga was for sure... I could've sworn I've seen videos.
It is for sure, it was announced at the TGS.

I heard 2 people can play Tron, at the same time! Multiplayer light cycles!!!
I, personally, cant wait for Discs of Tron, myself.
I'm also hearing alot of positive feedback on Omega Five, from alot of gaming sites. And this week makes me glad I haven't spent any of my 4000 points I got for Christmas!
Omega Five kicks major ass, if you're a shooter fan.
Stay FAAAAAAAAAR away from Tron. They managed to totally mangle yet another classic. It plays and sounds like shit.
And MS - word to the wise. Make a rotary controller for games like Tron and Tempest.
I totally forgot about that controller....
To be honest, that controller looks more faithful to Tron's arcade setup, than the regular controller.
But playing on the regular controllers..... You'd be better off playing with a loaded pistol. The rotary movement is slow and jerky. I'm praying Discs of Tron doesn't control as bad.
Tron has major issues. You can only fire with the trigger buttons. Good luck breaking through the MCP cone on the second level using the right trigger. They should have had a controller option where you can move your arm using the shoulder buttons and fire with A. The music is unbelievably bad; I have a C64 with a damaged SID chip and that is what it sounds like. The bad music eliminates a huge asset to Tron's appeal. And what's up with that crack sound every time you shoot into the MCP cone?
As a general note on XBLA classic games....if the game is vertical, I'd say it's OK to at least include an option to play it widescreen. If I'm playing games on XBLA in the first place I'm not exactly looking for purity. Tron just looks too small on the screen.
Only buy if you're a big fan of the tank game: it looks, sounds, and plays great (because you don't have to fire fast).
As for Omega 5, it violates two rather unreasonable prejudices I have:
-I don't like games that control like Robotron. (except for Robotron)
-I don't like shooters where people fly around (isn't that weird?)

I'm with you for the most part on the RoboClone hatred. Unless you can do it really well, you shouldn't bother. A few notable exclusions I give the free pass to:
- Everyday Shooter (ps3)
- Assault Heroes (360)
- Bangai-O (N64/DC)
- Smash TV (arcade/etc)
It's really quite sad how many games on XBLA and the PSN are shitty RoboClones with shiny graphics and nothing to set them apart, but there are a few that are quite good.
That said, I picked up Omega Five this morning and played a little before work and I really enjoyed what I've played so far. It reminds me of Bangai-O without constantly needing to open a path for yourself, and the dual sticks are infinitely superior to the DC's stick + buttons combo.
