The original DS was released on a Sunday as well. November 21st, 2004. Why? I don't know, but it's better than waiting until Tuesday!
I'm going to go pick mine up in a half hour.

probably going to pick up tomorrow
but has anyone experienced any DSes with dead pixels?
I know the first ds had some minor dead pixel issues (hell my current launch ds has one), so just wanted to know if anyone had any issues with their DS lites.
My Lite has one "red" pixel on the top screen. Only can be seen on a black screen.Originally Posted by youruglyclone

I wound up paying 30.00 for it. I will post the was it worth results tonight. I wasn't going to get on but the 71.00 trade in credit was a deal I couldn't pass up.

this is my first modern handheld so i dont even know what a dead pizel looks like.
I got mine with New SMB and Tetris DS.
I just wanna bitch about one thing - I HATE THOSE GOD DAMN PLASTIC CASES!!
They put the DS lite's main box inside those plastic cases. I never fail to cut my finger on those damn things opening them. Even with scissors.
It never fails. I sliced open my thumb.
Awesome!
I am even more blown away with the screen difference in person at home. Compared to my older one, the original might as well not even have a light. Holy crap! I'm literally seeing colors I didn't know were there!
I just played a game of Mario Kart against NOA_Mike. I lost of course. And the other two dropped out after the first race even though Mike got third and I was fourth. So I ended up losing by 8 points in second place.
My only disappointments are the sound seems VERY low now. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't hear it at all on the highest volume. Also, why the fuck didn't they put in a GBA "Switch buttons" option? It's even HARDER to play GBA games now. Fucking hell. I NEED THE BUTTONS TO BE THE Y AND B BUTTONS! THE A AND B ARE MISPLACED!
The free Brain Age with purchase of DS Lite is such a great deal.
Do it!
I got mine with a 20% Birthday discount plus my 10% employee discount. So with tax it came out to only a little over $99. That's enough savings to buy a whole game. Whoo!
Next time don't buy it from that store. Nintendo didn't put them in the blister packs. It's a per store thing.Originally Posted by diskoboy
I picked up brain age (free with coupon at BB), Super Black Bass, New Super Mario Bros., and Tetris DS. I went a little overboard for me-this is the most games I've bought at a system launch EVER. I'm gonna sell my NES GBA SP to make myself feel better about the money I spent today though.
It's Super Black Bass time! \m/
hows the sound on this compare to the psp's?? Is the psp louder?
The PSP is louder than the DS Lite.Originally Posted by muffinman943

gorgeous little machine, came out to $145 cdn after tax for me, plus a free mars bar
at first I was underwhelmed by the brightness, then it hit me: I was in the car! Once I got it home here, wow ...
Well I just finished playing some games and I must say the increase in resolution is amazing you see colors the way they were meant to be seen. To me it enhances the playing experiance. I really had no intention of upgrading but I am glad I did.
The original ds seemed to be an indestructable handheld. The ds lite is light I hope it is just as durable. To me it feels sturdy but fragile like a PSP.
Just an observation I trust nintendo's excellent reputation in the hardware department.

I just don't understand why any store would go to the trouble of inconveniencing the customer like that. I hate those damn packs. And for things that actually come in those packs as standard, once you've sliced/ripped it open - you're without a box. Very frustrating if you actually want to keep things organised.Originally Posted by Jasoco
It took me ages to really appreciate that there is a big difference between the original DS and the DS Lite in terms of volume. The DS Lite is really a lot quieter - it is probably the only negative thing about it. There are fewer speaker holes either side of the top screen, which I guess explains it. With headphones, I reckon it is about the same.Originally Posted by Jasoco
A Mars Bar is only for a moment, a DS Lite is for life! Be careful, though: both look so tasty, you might eat the wrong one!Originally Posted by Nesmaster
well I'm very happy with my DS LITE, i mean damn that thing is sexy. I had my carrying case for it from E3 in it's plastic till the second i pulled it out of the box. I also picked up brain age with it (it needed a new game), so in all I'm very happy w/ it.
Where did you buy it? (My money's on Wal-Mart or Target. Maybe CostCo after seeing the oversized blister packs they put Mac Mini "starter kits" in.)Originally Posted by THATinkjar
Also, was it hanging up or did the clerk have to get it for you? And even if he had to get it, did the pack have the holes for hanging it up in it? (Even if it wasn't hanging when you got it.)
I'm placing the rest of my money on "Theft deterrent". Those packs slow down thieves who try to steal the item while in the store. Since the Lite is small enough to conceal, but the box isn't, most people will try to take it out of the box first. The plastic makes it much harder.
It was at Best Buy. Which kinda weirded me out. BB has those big cages where they keep all the consoles. You ask an employee - they get it for you.Originally Posted by Jasoco
The good thing is, my real DS box was unharmed during the opening process.
My thumb on the other hand... (no pun intended)
I always cut myself on the sharp edges. Those blister packs should be banned!
I got mine today. I haven't even turned it on yet and I'm disappointed. First, there's no Nintendo oval. I'm a big Nintendo fan, and enjoy their emblem. Second, the charger is a different plug type than the DS, forcing me to unravel and keep track of yet another charger.
However, it is neat that it is ocvered in a clear plastic clamshell, making it look like the same high-gloss finish as the PSP. Oh well. I had ot purchase this at sometime anyways.
