Default Golden Sun - does it get better?

I've been playing a bit of Golden Sun for the GBA. It gets great reviews, and the battle system seem cool, but the 30 minutes of dialogue between each and every scene is killing me! Without giving anything away, would someone tell me if it gets any better? I've never played an RPG that has anywhere near this amount of chatter.... but the magic system seems pretty slick so I am willing to stick it out if needed.

Golden Sun is great. One of the best parts of the game is the story (which continues in the sequal) so pay attention to the "chatter"... BUT I do have to admit that sometimes they ramble on a bit long.

The exact reason I sold the game. I picked it up because of the great reviews it got, but it's so damn slow. And oddly enough I picked up Sword of Mana soon after and loved every minute of it, despite its average reviews.

Guess that's why you should never buy a purchase off reviews.

Golden Sun has a fun battle system, but it is a typical Japanese RPG - that is to say, full of inane dialogue, meaningless plot twists, and lots of NPCs with one-word replies. The story is far from the best part of the game.

Having finished the game (after several LONG hiatuses between playing spurts, because the game did not hold my interest for too long), I believe I can safely say that it does not get any better further on.

No, it just gets worse. A lot, LOT worse. Give up now, find a good RPG to play.

I've nickanmed this game "Golden Textbook."

*WHA*…..Man, this game is long winded.

I finished the game simply because I bought it. I refuse to play pt 2. It was a good game but the reading was too much. My advice? Quit while your ahead.

Sword of mana is indeed a great game! I finished it some weeks ago. It also have a long scene which you cant skip. If you die you have to watch it all over.

I'm usually in the minority with this, but I still stand by my opinion that Golden Sun is simply one of the worst RPG's I've ever played. I found the story and characters to be bland and uninteresting, and the battle system, while seemingly fine, is completely destroyed by one fatal flaw: the fact that your characters won't auto-target the next enemy after defeating the previous one. No, it doesn't add more strategy; It just makes tedious random battles substantially more tedious.

    /end rant

I'd suggest selling it, and grabbing a good GBA RPG like Breath of Fire 2 or Riviera.

I'm usually a fan of the action-RPGs (loved Shining Soul on the GBA), but I didn't get a lot of mileage out of Sword of Mana.

Sword of Mana has a great battle system, a wonderful graphical engine, and is easy to follow, but is dragged down by a cliché story and boring characters/dialouge. I didn't really play the game for its story though, far too cheesy, just really fun gameplay IMO.

Golden Sun was enjoyable, though I agree it was very wordy. I played it all the way through, and it left me wanting more. When the 2nd one came out, I bought it right away, expecting to pick up right where I left off in the original, and was horribly dissapointed. I couldn't remember what was going on, I was following a different party, and overall, it was just meh. Too bad, because I liked the first so much, and I wanted to finish the story.
