Default Why is Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II so in demand?

A friend of mine just messaged me to tell me how happy he was to get Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II for $25. Assuming the game was as ubiquitous as its predecessor, I didn't think much of it, but then he told me to check eBay prices. Holy cow! This thing goes for an average of $40! Why is it so valuable two years after its release?

    Default two player dungeon hack

two player dungeon hacks will always be in demand, and it the game was not as popular as the first, making a lower print run. The store I worked in did not get that many in if my memory serves me correct. To add to this problem, the demand for these games exceedes the games made, which still baffles me. Thirdly, this game is also backwards compatable with the 360.

The other odd thing is that I couldn't find the game on GameStop's site.

You are also forgetting that its a pretty darn good game to. Low supply, high demand, high prices.

Hmm...I picked up a copy for my wife about a year ago at Blockbuster for $19.

    She loves dungeon hack games.

after we got D&D Heroes and Bard's Tale we hardly ever play neither D.A. anymore, even less with the 2 norrath games now.

The funny thing about this one is that I never had an inkling that it was valuable...both formats were always used at the stores I frequented(and worked at), and then one day, they were all gone and the eBay price shot up.

Almost like it was overnight, it seems. I think the lowest price it dipped to at GameStop was $27.99.

Ditto for my wife. We've beat the first BG game together, the first Norrath game together, and started Return to Arms recently (I gave it to her for Xmas ).

When I was Xmas shopping I don't think I ever did come across BG2 (hence me picking up Norrath 2, which I still had some problems finding)

Last time I checked, this was $25 used at my local GameStop. I always keep pushing this purchase off as (It will drop in price, I will get it later) Well. I may just have to snag it now!

Like someone said earlier, it's probably the co-op factor. It's sad that there just aren't that many co-op games out there. It's probably the same phenomena with the Gauntlet games, and those aren't even all that great. It also happened with Diablo for the PSX for a short while, then it sort of settled down.

Same here, for the wife too. Anything involving a female warrior and dungeons and she's all over it. I picked up the Xbox Dark Alliance II for her about a year ago at EB used for $19.95. I haven't seen many copies since. She loved Champions of Norrath also and I have yet to get her a copy of Return to Arms. Been thinking I'd let the price drop some, but maybe I shouldn't wait too long!

I'm sort of suprised about the short supply of Dark Alliance II seeing as how it came out for both the PS2 and the Xbox. Must not have sold very well at all.

I bought the first one on the GameCube when it was priced at $15 new from EB Games and loved it. When I heard about the second release I wanted it, but never saw or heard of a GameCube release. Since GC is my only "next generation" consule I never had the urge to buy the PS2 version, thinking it would be in the clutter of many other games. But if it is rough to get then I might have to hold back for awhile until it pops up someplace cheaper.

Holy crap.. I was just thinking about this game too. I gave it a rental once, and I absolutely loved it, even more than Dark Alliance 1.

Here's to hoping the value of this game does not go up too much before sometime in April when the wife lets me get something new.

From what I recall, the reviews weren't quite this stellar at the time. "More of the Same" kinda stuff (which is pretty much what I want anyway I guess, but doesn't exactly stimulate sales for the general public).

Default Think this is a false rare...

It was and still is stocked at many Walmarts. I picked it up new last week for $29.99. I visited three Walmarts in San Diego last weekend and 2 of 3 had at least a couple of copies each. I just don't think a game being sold at Walmart could ever be rare, but I'm open to debate on the point.

"More of the same" is not always a bad thing. I wish the general public would realize that.

Got the PS2 version yesterday. I hope that is the rare one...
Currently catching up on PSN, WiiWare, Wii U E-Shop and Xbox Live Arcade exclusives I missed.

Those who enjoy BG and BGII may want to check out Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. Same system, same top-down. Same gameplay. Only with a post-apok...apocalip...apocaly...post-nuclear war storyline. And you can get it for $10 or less used.
