Default Touching is Good. But two times at once?

Looks like a possible successor to the DS is in planning stages, and multiple pressure point detection could be a major product feature.

It might not even be for the DS....

What say you? Sounds interesting to me.

not to me - just becasue its an old feature to me

also this sounds like one of those crazy patents companies get that should have been rejected

also do you think a significant upgrade like this would hurt nintendo -- it has the potential to alienate current DS owners that cant realy afford a new system that would want to play the new multi touch games

i would rather think that this could be a feature in a future product and nintendo is just trying to prevent some other new comer from implimenting this feature in their console

Seems like a touch.. A touch Too many ads.

I can't read it. I am able to read, but the ads are blocking the words on the page, Plus where the ads are not blocking, not all of the words are appearing..

Could someone please copy the article and post it up here? I'd appreciate it.

"Two finger" touch panel patent sparks DS speculation
    Rob Fahey 14:09 28/02/2006
Could new functionality be on the way for Nintendo's touch panel console?

A patent filed by Nintendo with the US Patent Office last year has come to light this week and kicked off speculation of a possible functionality upgrade for the Nintendo DS, as it describes a new control system for a dual-screen console with a touch interface.

The patent, which was uncovered by US website GameSpot, describes a console not dissimilar to the DS, but with one key difference - namely the ability to sense multiple pressure points on the touch-screen, rather than just a single point as the DS currently does.

What that means, in effect, is that players would be able to control games with gestures using more than one finger on the screen - with the example given in the patent being the control of a spaceship on the upper screen using two fingers on the lower screen to indicate direction and thrust.

The concept isn't exactly an entirely new one; other companies have explored the idea of two-fingered gestures before, and Apple's recent laptops allow users to scroll around documents and perform other actions by using two fingers on the touchpad.

However, the implementation of the system as a game controller is, to the best of our knowledge, a first - and could indeed point at an enhancement that could appear in any successor to the DS at some point down the line.

    Two-player touching on one screen?

I'm shocked at the implications and realize that the new DS will be fastened to a belt you wear. Both hands will hold a sytlus, and most games will be cooking simulators.

Is it really all that crazy?

This could be cool, Although i'm rather tired of nintendo rereleasing new variations of their systems left and right..

I also see it causing fewer people to be interested in DS Systems.

However, it may cause the DS to sell more, if this makes any sense with what i just said.

Just think of what the next sequel to Feel The Magic/Rub Rabbits would be like. Great Googly Moogley!!!
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.
