That's a good observation. Since N64 is my focus now, I'm working on a master list for all the US releases including Player's Choice, demo / kiosk carts, and label and cart color variations. I wasn't really concerned with the back label variations since the backs can be switched out so easily (and are quite often, I'm sure). I would be interested to know if anyone has noticed any label variations other than Player's Choice logos or the hologram version of Majora's Mask.
Im working on it brother, lol. im looking for EVERY NTSC variation i can. so im always willing to share.
maybe this will keep your intrest w/ the back label variations......
My Multi Racing Championship Cart w/ the Old label has no sound in the intro and no in game music. My MRC with the second label does have sound in the intro and in game music.
As far as boxes go, if you went down to the absolute finest detail, you would never find all of the variations. Some of the same game will have built in tray or removable, different color cardboard etc.
Also, there are lots of versions of different releases of the same game, even if you don't notice it. There are at least two versions of the precautions booklet that comes with every game. I am sure reprints after the revision, of games release before it probably had this difference. Also, I believe the Mario party game(s?) had a special fix done where an extra warning was included regarding playing mini-games with your palms. All of these changes include a -1 or -2 etc attached after the usually nintendo part number that goes on each game box, manual, cart, booklet, etc.
Here are some "true" variations that I know of.
The first release of Gauntlet Legends had a miniature figure included in the box with a little window you could see it through.
Micro Machines has three versions I know of. One that comes with a car toy in a window, one that comes with a car toy, but is a cardboard box with a note about it, and a third one with no car toy and no mention of it at all.
Supposedly, there is an F1 game where a picture was used of a guy with a PSX logo from a sponsorship thing. I heard it was changed in a later release. Honestly though, I have no idea if it is true and I can't verify this.
, thats funny about the F1 game.
I dont care about box, inserts, and manual variations. Only carts.
But i didnt know about the gauntlet action figure thanx for the info. i need to find this figure!
