    Default SimArcade

Let's say you were given the money to open up an arcade anywhere in a local mall or in its own building.

A: What games would you install in the arcade (classic, moden,e tc)?

B: How would you keep customers, young and old, intrested in playing and returning?

C: How would you keep it from degenerating into a seedy hangout?

    D: how would you advertise?

(This really should be made into a game)

Sorry Kaine - wasn't trying to crush the topic. I guess I'll fight to keep it alive then. Perform CPR on it and that sort of thing.

I would probably start an arcade with plenty of classics and quite a few modern titles as well, though on the modern side I'd try to keep the violent games (i.e. fighting games, etc.) to a minimum. I'd want parents to feel safe leaving their kids there. Then again, I wouldn't want to turn it into Chuck E. Cheese - I would, without a doubt, run an arcade, not a restaurant with a game room.

I would also try to open a distributorship account with someone and sell games there too, preferably modern console versions of whatever's in the arcade, whether it be Namco Museum for the PS2 or Rogue Squadron II for the Game Cube (I'd definitely want Sega's Star Wars Arcade in my arcade, thankyouverymuch). I'd also hold weekly high score contests and give away a game or two, maybe a console if I could afford it. As part of the game-selling side, I would try to keep a healthy stock of classic consoles and carts on hand as well. I'd want my arcade to be for kids of all ages.

As for advertising...on TV, I'd target afternoon cartoons, as well as in whatever sports I could afford (stuff like Monday Night Football, as I can tell you from working in TeeVee, is prohibitively expensive). I'd also do some major radio advertising to push the classics section, doing it as a kind of "spot the sound effect" thing, maybe even as a contest with one of the stations - whoever wins that day's call-in gets five bucks in free tokens. I'd want to do something to make people pull over in their cars, try to call in and win, and then change course from wherever they were going and come to my arcade.

Oh, and I'd have attendants on hand, plenty of them, to keep anything bad from going on. And since I'd be trying to make the place kid-safe, I'd background check the hell out of those people before hiring.

    That answer your questions?

Hey, I just thought this would be a topic we could all have fun with...not be ignored.

A: What games would you install in the arcade (classic, moden,e tc)?
Assuming that I would have infinate money and a good amount of space, I would get the following:
    2 Ultracades
2 six-slot Neo Geo machines (games would be rotated, though Samurai Shodown 2 and Magical Drop 3 would always be in at least one machine)
    Robotron 2084
    Galaga
    Galaga '88
    X-Men (4 player version)
    Captain America and the Avengers
    Donkey Kong 3
Donkey Kong (I already have the machine, so I might as well put it out)
    Virtual On
    Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram
    Virtual On: Force
    Tapper
Star Wars (the old Atari game)
    Crazy Taxi
    Space Invaders
    Phoenix
    Virtua Cop
    Virtua Cop 2
    Street Fighter Alpha 2
    Space Harrier
    Ms. Pac-Man

B: How would you keep customers, young and old, intrested in playing and returning?
I wouldn't do anything. If you don't like what I got, tough. It's my fantasy arcade, if you want something else, get your own arcade!

C: How would you keep it from degenerating into a seedy hangout?
Most of the games are probobly to old and/or obscure to attract that type of croud. As long as they don't harrass other customers and/or damage machines, I'd be fine with whomever.

    D: how would you advertise?
I would use TV commercials. They would mostly involve some guy dressed in a lobster suit pointing at various unrelated items until the name of my arcade flashed across the screen.

Because it would look really stupid. The entire point of the add would be to confuse people. I would get enjoyment out of that.
