Default Zzyzzyxx (no, seriously; that's what it's called 0_o)

Aaah, yes. Yet another old skool game from the golden age of cool-sounding letter overusage:

Anyways, I just saw an article about this game in the Onion, and I thought to myself; "now THIS game deserves a post!" :P Anybody else agree? Also, is this game really as fun as the vegetable-inspired periodical proclaims it to be? And how, how IN THE WORLD is it's title pronounced?!?!

    -thnx,
    chris

I remember driving past a road in California called Zzyzzyx road. I figured it was pronounced "zizzix". I imagine this is pronounced the same. I should dig up a picture that I took of it.

Zzyzzyxx was actually a game in the semifinal round of the MAME championship.

Here's around where that discussion began, hard to figure out what's going on unless you had been reading the thread when the compeition was in progress.

The general conscientious on pronunciation was "Zizicks."

I drove past that same road, I think it was on the way to Vegas from LA. Weird stuff, and my friends and I still get a laugh out of it.

I drive past that road every time I go to LA, but it is actualy Zzyzx Road. good memory considering you are from BC. Do you come down this way often?

Another favorite is "Ranch Exit" there are more of those on I-15 than "springfields" in the US . My fav is: going from SLC to anywhere south, there are two particular cities you hit on your way. Somewhere on that road, you see a mileage sign that says something like this:

    Fillmore 90mi
    Beaver 175mi

I went through that way back in 2002 (so about 4 years ago). I tried to dig up my picture of it, but it appears I did not scan it. I do have a picture of the world's largest thermometer from the same stretch, though.

Atari was almost called Syzygy when it was first named, except some other company had already chosen that name. Don't you hate it when that happens?

Actually who has the SYZYGY license plate for California, anyone around here know? A few months ago I saw it in the central valley.

My sister used to have a device like a magic 8 ball where it was the golden head of some some robot/genie looking thing. You asked it a question and waved your hand in the air over his head and it would spit out in answer in much the same way as a magic 8 ball. If I remember correctly, it was called Zzyzzyxx... can't find any info when I google it. I think I still have it somewhere. Ayway, when you turned it on (memory could be wrong), it pronounced its name as zy zecks (rhymed with "die decks").

Hah, the Wheatster is on it. Just the standard writeup, though.

I went through Google searching for results...got the field narrowed down for Zzyzzyxx and California, but didn't get anything relevant. Stuff that didn't work:

    "Zzyzzyxx, California"
"Zzyzzyxx rd." and "road," drive, dr., blvd, boulevard, lane...er...nothing. Did get some hits for "Zzyzzyxx Street (Fighter)," though.

One can also contemplate the charms of Xyzzy.

that isn't too standard if you ask me. very interesting take on the game! reminds me of the perverted writeups on nesplayer

I pass that road everytime I go to Vegas. It's in the middle of the desert pretty much. I always try to read it when I see it.

Warning: never stop in the Beaver! Something has always gone wrong when traveling and we stopped in Beaver. Driving the Virgin River Gorge is more pleasant than passing through Beaver!

Another landmark along that trip is Black Rock Road.
