    Default The Game Boy Light

Yes, there was a light system befor GBA: SP, released in Japan known as the Game Boy Light. When light was on, a bluish glow came allowing you to play Metroid II under the blankets. However, I looked up on Ebay (to gaze you know) and found nothing, then I went up on other forums and nothing. Anyone know where to find these rare gameboys?

Every couple weeks one or two will show up on eBay. IIRC they go for about $80 to $100, depending on condition and such. There are several variations including a Silver, Gold, and I think Famitsu Skeleton version.

*edited because JJNova made me feel bad.

I have one - it rules. It has an Indiglo-type backlight that is toggled with an additional setting on the power switch. sizewise, i'd say it's like the game boy pocket however it's deeper like the game boy color, so it's easier to handle (the 'pocket' is too small and too thin for me to use comfortably). if you want to play game boy games, this is probably the one to have (either that or the original). the GBAs have better screens but the screen size for playing game boy games is smaller.

I've seen it during college at an electronics store once, but I was in college and broke...maybe one of these days I'll go back to see if it's still there

and there's a special astroboy version as well.

Just saw one of these on eBay while browsing GBA SP2s. I gotta say, at first I thought it was a typo and the person meant a Game Boy Advance SP or a DS Lite, but no, lo and behold there is a Japan-only GB with a built-in back-light. Who here owns one of these? Are they still better for certain games or have they been eclipsed by the likes of the Color, Advance SP, Micro, and DS?

I have a gold one and got it because of the lack of a light (and lack of installable back-lights at the time) on Game Boy Color. It was used primarily during the later afternoon when it began to get dark and in general at during night time. I was satisfied and even now when it doesn't get use anymore thanks to the GBASP2 I still look back and find it to be useful and effective.

This clip, albeit under normal lighting shows how it looks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVZWHQkXoms

The form factor is nearly the same as the Pocket except instead of using AAA the Light uses AA and has a slightly larger form factor on the battery cover.
    Whaddya mean invalid parameters?!

I'm surprised nobody has come up with a monochrome OLED screen replacement for the old GB systems.
