Why did the first (and only) Gremlins game for NES start on 2? What I know there wasnt a Gremlins 1 even for Famicom. Could it be because Gremlins 2 for C64 was released at about the same time? C64 had Gremlins 1.

Isn't it based on the *gasp* second Gremlins movie?
Indeed it is bases on thre Gremlins 2 movie. I had the Gameboy version, which I'm assuming is near enough identical to the NES version?
Timing. The NES was at peak when Gremlins 2 was released in theaters.
That question is like why did they release "Goldeneye" on N64 and not Octopussy?
(Let the record show, I'd rather play "Octopussy 64", then "Goldeneye 64")

Hm.. ye that might be it. Didnt think about that
Also, Gremlins for Atari 2600.
Gremlins 2 is an awesome game, one I had as a kid and still like to play.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Number 1 in the 'hood g!
Gremlins 2 is actually a pretty fun action game. graphics and music are pretty catchy, though a bit repititious and the elements of collecting money (what was it in the game again) to go to the shop to buy power-ups was intresting.
Also to note all weapons (save for tomatos) and Gremlins were seen in the movie.

Movie games are usually a part of that movie's marketing. So, the movie studio paying Sunsoft wanted them to hype up the little elements in Gremlins 2- (The paperclip bow, the Spider-strype etc.) Still, they could have thrown that Barbie Corvette in there somewhere, right?
My understanding is that the NES game is substantially longer and complex, actually.Originally Posted by CosmicMonkey

Yeah in the past I always wondered the same thing but like Goonies in japan they had the first one and we only got the second one .. so wonder if theres gremlins 1 in japan for the famicom ??
Isn't the GB more of a platform game, while the NES version has a top-down view.Originally Posted by Jorpho
And yes, it's because the game is based on the second movie (which contains the spider Gremlin, electric Gremlin, etc.).
Nope, only one Gremlins game (Gremlins 2) for the NES/Famicom. Now there were THREE Ghostbusters games...Originally Posted by dojosky

I suppose there might have been some desire to disambiguate the NES title from that other Gremlins game (released on the 5200, Apple II, and C64, at least), but the movie tie-in was probably by far the greatest consideration.

A driving stage with that would have rocked! Doubt Sunsoft could have gotten a licence to do that, though just calling it a "pink corvette" likely have worked too.Originally Posted by XYXZYZ
