Default Why Raystorm (PSX) is a R7?

I don't get it, why Raystorm is a R7? Is it the game is hard to find now and days, or because there weren't a lot of copies made?

The sequel Raycrisis was much harder to find (for me) but the game is a R3 according to the guide.

I purchase Raystorm a year ago at the flea market complete for $8 (FYI).

I've seen at least a dozen copies of Ray Crisis in the wild before I saw my first Raystorm. Raystorm is definitely rarer but I don't know about a R7. More like a R5 or 6 I think.

I've seen a fair number of RayCrisis's at various shops, but have yet to run into RayStorm. I'm thinking it is definately rarer, and probably a better game too (Crisis sucks!).

It's an R7 because its freaking impossible to find. I think i've seen maybe 3 copies in my many moons of travels. Ray Crisis was still being sold by WD up until their demise and I never had an issue getting either disc art or rear insert off ebay (well the one disc art and insert that I didn't have).
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

Crisis wasn't that bad, but I perfer Raystrom more than Crisis.

Still, I'm suprise that Raystorm is really that rare. x_x

    (First post)
I was lucky enough to score Raystorm with original case and manual in near mint condition at a local GameStop in December 05, for $6.95. Which completed my Rayz collection. I now own:

    SAT - RayForce (Galactic Attack)
    PS1 - RayStorm
    PS1 - RayCrisis

RayStorm isn't too hard to find. I wouldn't call it an R7, it is more like an R5. You can find the game online, you just have to be willing to pay around $40.00 for it.

I didn't think raystorm was actually worth that much. I visited a local gamestop about a month back and they had 2 copies. I probably wouldn't of got it either, but it only costed like 4-5 bucks. Raycrisis though i don't think i've ever seen.

Did you know Raycrisis got a PAL release too? But not under Working Designs, no, it was under JVC.

I've never seen a PAL Raystorm, but I know it was released.

    Now, what about Rayforce?!

I have owned both of these games in the past. (Actually i'm currently selling Raycrisis MINT and complete in buying and selling) I spent a lot of time with both of them but there is not doubt in my mind that Raycrisis is a better game. Raycrisis is much more polished with waay better menus IMHO. As for the rarity I have seen at least in the last year more Raystorms for sale and at lower prices then Raycrisis. So I dunno....just figured I'd put in my two cents.

and btw...2D shooters are just much more fun IMO =) That's why I say Galactic Attack is still the best of 'em for this series.

    Default hmmm...

I bought Raystorm on ebay about six months ago for about $15. RayCrisis I found today at Gamestop for $4.99 with the Buy 2 Get 1 free sale (picked up Resident Evil 2 + 3 with it).

This was the first time in a long time I had seen it anywhere. Not sure if I've ever seen Raystorm in the wild, and I have looked for it. I've almost completed my Working Design collection (minus variants on Dragonforce and such).

I've only found one copy of RayStorm in the wild compared to a handful of RayCrises since I started collecting shooters. It's definitely a good deal rarer, but I'm not sure about R7 territory. Once PS1 games start drying up, I wouldn't be surprised to see it get there.

the problem with rarity guides in general are that its tough for them to be judged on actual printing runs.
