I have 2 of these guys, and i'm thinking about getting rid of one. I have about 20 or so games, plan on getting the memory hungry ones (Shining Force CD for one). Think i'll ever run out of space?
Mine is still in the box; brand new & sealed at the ends. I've never broken it out and I have lots of games to hog space.. the secret is I don't play too many SCD games and never more than a couple at a time so the internal memory has worked fine for me.
I bought it on eBay about 5 years ago for $20. New ones are getting rarer. I've always thought though.. that if I sold it.. I'd have to run a disclaimer about the battery though. Who knows if it works.. how old would this thing be now? Before anybody says anything.. I know.. SCD save carts were never shrink-wrapped.. they had Sega embossed clear spots sealing the end flaps.
Another thing.. I don't know how big these things were in actual kb (Assuming a Saturn cart is 512kb.. you'd think less) but I always thought the cart is 3X bigger than the internal memory.. but I could be totally wrong.
I'd say two would be overkill though. Hmm.. one would be nice for a back-up? Were there ever any cart stickers in any of WD's SCD games? That'd be cool.. like a Dragon Force cart!
I don't know off the top of my head but I never filled one. I've sold them easy at $25 loose.
I used mine pretty extensively.
the internal ram on the segac cd wasn't enough to hold more then I beleive 2 saves for shining force cd, but the memory card is able to pretty much hold saves for every sega cd game that came out including the big rpgs like lunar vay lunar2 shining force cd sonic cd dungeon master /explorer and a ton of other games, and still have space left over.
the one catch and why i'd say to keep both is most of those games only allow 3/5 saves per memory card/internal memory, so if you wanted more then say 5 shining force cd saves regardless of space you'd need two cards.
for the casual user one is fine though.
(same reason i have 3-5 of most of the nes rpgs just for extra save files)
Or as in my experience...Third World War, where one save takes up the entire f'ing internal memory. I've never made it to the end of a campaign...ever...Originally Posted by Blitzwing256

weren't they tiny memory cartridges?
I have 2, and if I remember rightly, they only hold 256k of data each.
On the plus side, 256k of data is a HUGE amount for a sega cd game, so you can easily fit a dozen or two games on a single cart.
yeah I've got 2 as well..... I don't need 2, you won't run out of space, thats for sure.
anyone got a quarter?

According to the manual, they hold about 16 times the internal storage for about 2000 blocks. You could fill it with a massive collection, but it's not a big worry.
