PS2 on my PC monitor?

Is something like this possible? I figured I'd ask here b4 I would go searching the net for adapters. basically looking to go from either Coax or AV cables to connecting to my monitor ( or my KVM switch ). I'd prefer to hook up my systems to the monitor ( 19inch CRT ) instead of using a seperate TV for space sake.

If you're willing to use coax or composite, just use a TV Tuner.

There is a contraption that you can buy that will go from composite to VGA for doing exactly what you are saying. I don't know how good the picture would be though. You can also do what ROn Jeremy says and use a TV tuner card, but I would imagine that the picture quality would be even worse, but if you are trying to capture video then that would probably be the way to go.

I *THINK* that you could buy a component cable for your PS2 and then get a component to VGA convertor. I think those things are $$$$$$$ though.

Using a composite or RF connection with a tuner card will likely yield poor results. The *best* solution is probably an XRGB2 or 2+, though these are hard to find. The XRGB3 should be out soon, hopefully, though its expensive (>$300).

Theres also the Hori Upscan converter, which is relatively cheap and is made specifically for PS2 (however it supports interlaced input only):

If any of your PS2 games support progressive scan (I'd normally say check www.hdtvarcade.com but I think their lists are down right now...) you could use component cables and a VGA transcoder such as this one:

You're right - the quality isn't perfect - but if you a decent card it's completely acceptable. Just check out reviews before you decide which to get. Most support S-Video so you can get a decent picture.

A benefit to the tv tuner card is that you can use it to watch TV too, which is important for saving space.

I'm not saying that TV Tuner cards suck or anything. I was assuming that this dude is wanting to hook his PS2 up to a VGA monitor because of the increased picture quality. Obviously that wouldn't be the case if he uses a TV card.

Of course, he didn't actually say why he wants to do this...

I guess it also depends on how many systems you want to hook up - is it just a ps2 or others too? this will determine the ultimate cost and which option is appropriate.

well I have one of those boxes that allows you to hook up to 4 inputs ( coax or av ) so that is probably the medium i'd be using to connect it.

If you play to go from a system selector to your PC then I don't see any alternative to using a TV Tuner card. Although the people in this thread are right - the results will be MUCH nicer looking if you were to avoid this route. I've used it for xbox before - it was fine.

You could also buy the PS2 Linux kit. If i remember correctly it also had a connect-your-PS2-to-a-VGA-monitor-cable. I wouldn't be surprised if you could buy that cable from some third party company too...

my video card came with an S-video cable. Would I be able to plug it into my game system and then into the card and have it work on my monitor? I don't wanna try it without knowing because I don't want to break anything

If it's a video card, I'd assume the S-video is so you can output your computer signal to a television.

With a TV Tuner card you could use the s-video as an input to use the source on your PC monitor.

Can you watch TV on your computer? If so you can probably plug your system into it.
