Kao2 ??!!!?? This CAN'T be real, can it??

A few years ago I bought many Dreamcast games with an intent to try and get my wife interested in videogames. Among these was something called Kao The Kangaroo.

Now, let me be clear - this 'game' is dreadful. The game is so awful, I'm not sure it would be possible to exxagerate it's level of bad.

The folks here near my age (late-30's) probably remember that game everyone played on character-based computers in 6th grade (mid-80's) wherein you adjusted your cannon angle and amount of gunpowder/cannonballs to use, and took turns trying to land a shot on the opponent's turret. Kao's graphics make you long for this artillery game.

Atari 2600 Basic Programming ? Gameplay that embarrases Kao.

Yet, this evening, I saw a SEQUEL to Kao The Kangaroo on the rack at Software, Etc. I was stunned that a sequel was spawned from this waste of plastic. Was Kao on some system other than the Dreamcast, perhaps done better? There's got to be some tax evasion angle being played here...

Yeah I saw that in a WalMart today and made one of those o_O faces when I saw it. I didn't think that was a franchise that was going to be brought back for any reason.

I'm not sure what exactly made Atari pick up this license, but I think it might have a connection with the game actually being a success in Europe when the original was released on the Dreamcast. It's one of the few instances this generation a game such as this saw a release in Europe almost a year before it came out in the States, so that has to say something about the game clicked in Europe.

Keep in mind the series wasn't completely dead since the Dreamcast, a GBA version was released as well.

I'm not quite that old, but since my middle school was po', we used those archaic computers out of necessity, so I am very well-versed in those games. Good times.

Hilarious review. I've never played Kao, but now I want to, just to see if it can possibly be that bad.

Wow... I had no idea this came out either. Seems that sequels and/or variants came out for Xbox, PS2, GBA, AND the PSP? That's a lot of games for a shitty license. Oh, well. Certainly isn't the first time!

I own the PS2 version and PSP versions, I think their simple platformers but fun ones that make the genre I love a pretty fun to play thru sometimes. 34% thru the PS2 version, I plan to start up the PSP version as soon as I get 100% on the console one.

Ahh, I also bought Kao for DC thinking it would be something my wife would enjoy. She loves platformers. She loves all platformers. She even loves crappy platformers.

She did not like Kao the Kangaroo.

She loves animal mascots. Silly cartoon mascots. Even dumb animal mascots.

She wanted to hurt Kao the Kangaroo.

Every time I here someone go on about how bad E.T. for the 2600 is, I shake my head. Heck, I beat E.T. when I was a kid. Kinda enjoyed it, even. That's not a bad game. I know bad games. I've had to play Kao, the freaking, Kangaroo!
