Default gameboy pocket more rare than gameboy color?

Quick question: Is the gameboy pocket more rare than the gameboy color?

I've never owned a GBP, or known anyone that did, all my friends used to own the big brick original versions.

You know, to be honest I don't really know but I would have to say that it is. I can't rember why but a lot of my friends and I didn't upgrade until the color came out. I'm wanting to say the color was rumored when the pocket came out and not a lot of people bought it. I could be wrong though...

I had a GB Pocket (it was a piece of crap), and I must say that I would not consider it to be rare by any stretch. Neither is a GB Colour. Millions of each sold. I would also say it would be difficult to determine which is more rare.

I've got a red GB Pocket. Seems to eat batteries quickly, but I like it. Nice screen.

Everywhere I go i see more Game Boy Colors than any other older Game Boy units, even the bulky original. I've yet to see the Game Boy Pocket anywhere, even in stores that specialize in selling old stuff. So out of all the old GB systems, it seems to be the one you're less likely to come across.

The GameBoy Light is the rarest GameBoy. Both GBP and GBC are not rare. Both are cheap.

What about the Gold-colored Pocket? Any value to that?

eBay says no...but what does everyone else think?

There are a couple rarities for Game Boy Pocket, but none are really worth anything unless you have the original box and the unit is in good shape.

    Gold Game Boy Pocket
Limited Edition Ice Blue Game Boy Pocket
Limited Edition Silver Game Boy Pocket
Any Game Boy pocket system that was packed in with a game.

And obviously, the Game Boy Light (JAP)

I will let Neuropolitique jump in here and see if there is anything I missed.

It eats batteries quickly? Quicker than what? The brick or the color? You have to keep in mind the brick had 4 AAs, and the pocket has what? 2 AAAs? Is the screen as blurry as the original? I found the color version to have a decent screen - is the pocket similar to that?

I had the original brick and my sister had the pocket.

1)The original eats batteries faster, camparably.

2)The GBP had a better, clearer screen BY FAR.

    I now have them both.

The Pocket is definately more rare than any other Game Boy iteration, generally. It was only on the market for two years before the Color was released.

The Pocket also saw the beginings of large scale limited editions, which sounds kinda backwards. Besides the models GrandAm mentioned I can think only of an Extreme Green, or similarly named, edition.

I would hesitiate to put the GB Light on the list, only because it's an import. Generally speaking, it's the most rare. But there are editions of other models that can rival it specifically.

I disagree, I always thought the pockets battery life was shorter than the original Brick system.

The original had WAY better speakers, and I usually played my games at full volume. Im sure that has something to do with my memories of its battery life...
Mabey my memory just sucks :P

GrandAm and I were talking about the battery life issue in the Bender today. We both agree that the pocket should have worse battery life than the brick, but neither of us could really back it up.

So, we've decided to run a series of battery tests. The game used will probably be Super Mario Land, as I have the most copies of that. :/ Batteries will all be the same brand and type, with size being the only difference. Look for some results tests on Saturday.

The Gameboy Pocket came out at a time when the Gameboy was almost failing. The Game Gear was actually selling better at that time, I think. Then Pokemon came out and changed everything, but the Color also came out around that time and that's what kids bought to play their Pokemon on.

I also have to say that the original Gameboy is more uncommon to come across than I would imagine, too. I think a lot more Gameboy systems get destroyed compared to other consoles. I really haven't seen any orignal Gameboys for sale anywhere that were in good condition, I've been looking for one to pick up, but they're always just toasted when I come across them.

50th issue? I don't remember that. In fact, I'd wager the GBP wasn't even out when the 50th issue came out. (The cover feature was Link's Awakening, I know that much.)

The GBP reportedly uses a Z80 chip that is a tiny fraction of a MHz faster than the original GB's Z80. A couple of the arcade classics games had minor sound glitches, and I assume that's the cause.

The reason GBCs are easier to find than the original brick can probably be chalked up to the fact that the GBC is far more recent. The original Game Boy was around much longer, and I'm sure it sold WAY more. Of course, what ultimately happened to all those Game Boys is a different issue, but really, those old bricks could survive a serious beating. Usually the biggest problem was a scratched up screen (an easy replacement) or a row of pixels giving out.

Anyway, as has been already pointed out, the Pocket had the shortest lifespan of the three, so I'm sure it's safe to say it's the rarest, but still, that's like asking "What's rarer, dirt or water?"

I too skipped from the original to the Color, but my boyfriend didn't, so now we have a silver Pocket and I love the little thing. I love the size, shape, weight, how clear it is compared to to the original, how big the screen is (way bigger than GBC), and personally, I always thought the battery life was quite good. But I can't really be bothered buying AAA batteries, especially when I don't have to buy any batteries for my SP, so sadly it sits virtually unused now.

Well rare doesn't always mean exspensive. I've found some pretty rare games for dirty cheap.
