    Default Paypal reversing payment?

Hi. Recently I sold a copy of Donkey Kong Country 2 on eBay for $17.95. The buyer paid for the item through Paypal and the item was shipped the next day, troublefree. Today I logged on to find that received money missing, and the transaction was described as "reversed". I contacted Paypal and they told me the buyer messed up in paying, and I should contact him for a new type of payment. Since he has the game already I would not be surprised if he did not pay. Has this happened to anybody else? What else should I do? This is horseshit if I get screwed out of $18 for being a good seller and shipping an item the day after receiving payment. Thanks for the help!

    If he refuses to pay
file mail fraud with your local post office.

Did the payment actually clear? If you sent the item before the payment was actually cleared into your account, then you're likely getting taken.

Happened to me before once too. Last year I think. Kid payed and like 3-4 days later the payment "reversed". Luckily I didn't send out the item yet.

I emailed him asking what was going on. He said he was in the course of switching banks.

If he was lying I couldn't tell you, he did pay me though and it didn't "reverse". Im not sure what he did or how he did it, maybe he didnt do it knowingly. Im pretty sure he didnt do it knowinly.

And in terms of payment, it was just a paypal --> paypal transfer, he took the $ from his bank acct. No check, no waiting for it to clear. It was "instant"

Id deff email the buyer though, ask him what is up.

As for "file mail fraud", i wouldnt do that over $18.00. Is that your answer to everything Kevin? Do you even give people a chance? Or do you just assume the worst?

D I think the answer is obvious on that one. I still have yet to see a happy ebay thread from Kevin not containing any of the following words:

    hate
    fraud
    f**k
    stupid
    ass
    negative
    refuse(s)
    file
    strike
    cheap

Not sure how they can "mess up" payment. Was it by cc or by instant payment ?
Hmm probably paid by Paypal by cc, told Paypal it was an unauthorized charge and they reversed it ?
    Must do the route

I asked Paypal what the buyer did to cause this, and this was their very helpfull response:

Thank you for contacting PayPal, my name is Jason.

For security reasons we are not able to disclose information regarding
another members account. All we can suggest is that you contact the buyer
and request payment for the reversed money. If you do not receive this you
can contact our Resolution Center at 1-888-221-1161. I am sorry I can not
better assist you in this matter.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Thanks for the help guys, it is simply rediculous that Paypal can do this to a seller.

You aren't giving us all the information. Log into paypal and examine the transaction. I've had reversals and they all have information in the paypal file as to why it happened. Had a 360 bought with a stolen cc and had a doctor not know his kid was buying items on ebay. After a bit of a fight I got my money back in both cases.

The info is in there. You may not be able to find it if you never looked but its there. If you can't find it call paypal. They won't give you all the info you want buy they will tell you why the payment was reversed. The credit card was reported lost/stolen etc.

If they won't any info you have to go to police and send the order to paypal and then they will have to comply for ALL the info you request.

Not if it's a bank-issued card instead of a credit card. Credit cards tend to take time for reversals/disputes, but most banks will reverse a disputed charge almost immediately. I would absolutely call Paypal at the number listed above if you haven't already. Paypal is useless via email.

I think I found your auction. The buyer (is it mtr-------?) looks like he's successfully completed every transaction he's been involved in. If he won't respond to email, do a user information request and call him. Many of these issues get cleared up with a simple phone call. If he has fake info, report him and he'll either be suspended or forced to give real info.

Don't panic or get furious. That doesn't solve anything at this stage.

I alway's wait at least 3 days for payments to fully clear, I'm pretty sure paypal has a policy that once its in your account for like 3-4 days it's YOURS. That reverse thing is weird, I would definetly contact paypal again and ask to speak to a supervisor.

"Do you even give people a chance"?

Please reread: I said "IF HE REFUSES TO PAY..."

If he agrees to pay no need to file anything. I am giving the guy a chance to fix his error.

I had one item with a reversal last year. I had to supply PayPal proof that I shipped the item to his confirmed address. I don't know if the guy used a stolen credit card or what but it pissed me off. It took some time but I was able to get my money back.
