Default Mortal Kombat II for Sega Master System

So, I picked this game up for cheap in a lot, and to my utter surprise, it worked. And to even more of my surprise, it actually looks great and plays decent.

Was this an official release or a bootleg?

Official. Basically, bootlegs were only released in South Korea.

Well, the rarity guide says it's either European or Brazilian. I'm guessing if it's not then yes it's a bootleg unless it hasn't been added to the guide as a rumormill or official release. Maybe someone else can shine some light on it.

Yeah, the guy said it was Brazilian, and I know the Master System was supported there way up until '97 or so (wasn't it?), so it sounded legit, but ya never know.

Have any of you ever played it? It's an amazing piece of programing. Were there any other games released later in the SMS's life that showcase the system like this one?

As was said, the game came out in Europe/Australia, too.

Technically, the SMS is still supported in Brazil. They still manufacture consoles there, though there hasn't been any commercial game releases in years.

It's pretty much the same as the Game Gear, though it feels a little quicker. On the other hand, Mortal Kombat 3 is NOT as good.... at all.

Definately right, Mortal Kombat 2 is better than 3 on the SMS. I'm impressed by how much they crammed into it. Just sucks that the game blows so much. Now if they can only create Final Fantasy game for the SMS Give it time before those Hong Kong developers figure out a way

That's interesting to know they actually made Mortal Kombat II & 3 for the European SMS market. I didn't even think they'd be able to do much in the way of producing it on there since it looked somewhat like a struggle for the Genesis.

Of course some would debate against it, but how the Genesis hosted MK1, 2, 3, and the ultimate 3 the graphics didn't change all that much between 2 & 3, which I'm not sure but did 3 look better on the Saturn? So ya, for MK3 to be on the Saturn it sounds REALLY odd to see it on a consule 2 generations before ported. Very graphic intensive and I'm sure stretched the limits of the SMS.

I believe years ago I sumbled across a ROM of MK2 for the SMS and looked like pixel hell, might as well play the Gamegear version.

The SMS was well supported in Europe, especially UK. More European games on SMS than USA titles (For once the tables turned).
UK even had it's own SMS-only magazine, from the Future Publishing stable.

SMS MK3 only came out in Brazil and it is just a hack of the GG version (not properly formatted for the TV, etc.).

When given the choice to play either the GG version or the higher-res, properly-formatted-for-the-TV-screen SMS version, why not choose the SMS version?

Yeah I have multiple copies of this as its pretty common here
in Australia, Was good in its day, from a tech point of view that is,
The game isnt to bad to play its just all in the timeing, slow and steady,
then youve got an 8bit gem.

Oh and yeah stay away from any 8 bit MK3, they all blow chunks
    big big big time.
    zomg I have a sig

    Itīs right.
The Mortal Kombat II for Master System was really released in my country in 1994.
The Tec Toy was ported Game Gearīs Mortal Kombat 3 to Master System in 1997.

The current Master System was 112 Built In games.
The Tec Toy company is discontinued the catridges production for Master System and Mega Drive.

Actually in my country, the Master System and Mega Drive catridges used only are found.

Well, assuming you're referring to Sega Master Force, that's not a great example since it only lasted 5 issues and was basically started because they wanted to get rid of all the SMS-related stuff from the main Sega Force mag.
