The credits give special thanks to Suda 51.

I wonder what he had to do with it?

I know some of the early press claimed that online play was laggy, but I just played for about a half hour with some other DP members and I didn't experience one bit of lag considering how much goes on on-screen in this game.

Seriously though, online play was EXACTLY what this franchise needed ... even though I didn't win a single match, I had a blasty!

lol yeah, I went back to the same GS today to see if they had any copies of the game left...wudda ya know, they had plenty of copies left over despite the guy telling me he was sure that every copy of the game was going to be sold during the midnight release.

Are you connecting via WiFi or with an ethernet cable?

Even though the Wii is WiFi ready, I find their WiFi signal / communication to be pretty sub-par ... I've got a good WiFi setup in my place and I had to get the USB ethernet adapter for the Wii after like, two weeks because I got tired of having to delete and re-connect the Wii to my wireless signal (for whatever reason the Wii kept dropping connection during hibernation) ... since I've hard-wired it I've never lost my connection.

The online is having some difficulties, but I hope Nintendo is working on that. Other than that, the game is awesome. I am very impressed with the Subspace Emissary mode. This is the best music on the Wii, hands down.

Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid creator) and Suda 51 are good friends. I don't know what, if anything that would have to do with it though. Maybe Suda helped design the Snake level?

I just want to go on record and say that djbeatmongrel reminded me just how out of practice I am in this damn game by kicking my ass repeatedly tonight.

I need to start a serious training regiment if I'm going to hang with the DP Smash Brothers crew in online action.

It was fun. To be honest though I didn't expect to do so well. I was never into the other smash bros and am having a tough time with some stuff on just normal. I geuss my one advantage is that i play a lot of 2d fighters but they are a whole other beast

Once I get home... which won't be for another two weeks, sadly, I'll note my friend code and see how you all do against me. I still haven't found my character niche just yet, but at the moment, I'm pretty partial to Pit.

My online play has been iffy. I played for a good hour with no interruption but then the last ten minutes all kinds of disconnects and weird errors. Also, I find the story mode to be a bit repetitive. I really like the game so much better as a fighting game. (Although the cut scenes are excellent) Yes the game can be much more than just fighting, but the story mode just does not click entirely for me.

I haven't been able to connect to an open game tonight. I don't think it's my connection, because I can get on to the network in about 10-15 seconds.

I'm liking the adventure mode myself so far (I'm about 30% in), though some of the parts that require precise jumping are kind of a pain. Does anyone know if the stickers you get power up the characters in other modes or just that one?

Lo and behold, when I logged into the the WFC today, my Wii retrieved a new homerun video, a new screenshot, and two new stages. I guess I should have just been a little more patient. The only thing i don't like about this - apparently, every time you update the new stages you lose your previously downloaded levels. I don't really see how they could get around it, given the Wii's diminutive storage capacity, but it still sucks. What if we get some brilliant stage that's tons of fun? It's gone in a day, regardless? Doesn't seem right.
Do you need to have WiiConnect24 standby mode set to "on" to get this stuff? I'm assuming so, but I've turned standby mode off after I noticed my Wii was getting pretty warm even when it was shut off.

EDIT: never mind, I didn't have the "smash service" turned on...

By sheer coincidence, I was messing around with the sound test and noticed the "credits" option, and as I was scrolling through I noticed "Chousoujou Mecha MG - Marionation Gear" credits the arrangement to Grasshopper Manufacture. This post immediately entered my head. That's the best I can think of.

Got every character and every stage, beat SSE, beat the single player events, 225 trophies, 220 songs, I'm at 450 stickers with no end in sight. Over 24 hours of power-on time. I still can't believe how much is in this game. 27 years of gaming history stuffed into one dual-layer DVD.

Only gripe is the English voices (and no option to switch to Japanese like in Melee). God, Falco sounds like the Scout from TF2.

I think I gotta hardwire mine, it only connects to my wireless route like, once every week. I had to get lucky when I wanted to check out the VC.

Thank god the update was from the game disc too, I'd probably go comatose if I didn't have a connection for an internet update.

Created stages can actually be pretty fun even if the toolset is limited. This should have been expanded on though.

I'm also a little disappointed that there are not target stages dedicated to individual characters.

These are pretty much my only two gripes in the whole package.

But the Codec communications on Shadow Moses Island are totally, and completely, full of win.

When I'm playing, this game's balls literally hang out of my wii. It's kind of distracting ...

... though I am having some online problems. I can connect (wirelessly - but w/ no Wii Wifi adapter) to "spectate" and bet on / watch matches just fine, but am having extreme difficulty finding anyone to play in online brawl mode. It only worked a handful of times, and I tried on and off for about three hours. I don't seem to be having any problems connecting to the actual wifi though, as it says I'm connected after only a few seconds.

Has anyone else been having these problems? Would the Wifi adapter help? What does it do exactly? Just "boost" the wireless signal? I don't ever have any problems downloading games on the VC, so do I need one? Would the LAN adapter work better (ie using a wired connection)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had attempted "automatic" connections between random players time out / fail repeatedly in the past few days. But if I stay persistent and keep trying, it'll eventually connect me with a core group of players that stays connected solid for multiple matches.

And I've not had any connection problems when using people off my friend roster.

As far as the "errors" I think the nature of a network attempting to randomly connect 4 players and everything that can happen with that process is probably the most to blame first and foremost. (ie. the likelyhood of one out of the four connections lagging out or causing some type of cascading network error even during the initial connection process between all four players is pretty high.)
