    Default Fav Old-School Multiplayer/Co-op Games

Tetris Attack: I've never had so much fun playing a puzzle game against someone. On top of that, that garbage your opponent sends at you can actually help you crush them!

Super Bomberman 2: My favorite Bomerman game that has multiplayer. 10 stages and tons of different powe-ups and single or team battle modes. There was a time when one of my friends didn't wanna play this game because I owned so hard at it. :P

Contra/Super C/Contra III: Bill and Lance rock hard. Your friend will understasnd if you kill him buy jumping and scrolling the screen upward to get that Spread Gun. :P

There are others but I'll post them later.

    Co-op play:
Mario Bros on VCS. Work together with Mario and Luigi is excellent fun

    Multi play:
Party Mix on VCS. Used to play it with workfriends and it ended up that we're all stripping off. Great fun.

Trivial Pursuit on XE or C-64. Obvious really, beats that stupid board game.

M.U.L.E. on XE. That auction still cracks me up, talk about easy.

The old Mario Brothers game was fun co-op double teaming those creatures popping out the pipes. And a matter of fact all the Mario games that had multiplayer options were great. It's quite nice being turn-based and let each player attack the levels one at a time. In SMB3 it was nice that if a player got game over they'd lose the completion of all their levels.

Aerofighters has a really great 2-player co-op mode. It also makes the game a bit easier due to all the freaking guys flying around and shooting junk every which way. That game's a coin eatter indeed.

Two other great co-op arcade games are The Simpsons and Captain America and the Avengers. Those 2 games kicked major ass and the 4-player machines are the best, as of recent though I've only come across the 2-player machines at the arcades. The gameplays are awesome and having a second player actually enhances everything.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES doesn't require co-op but is also a fun title to get with another player. It's great to kick Bebop and Rocksteedy's asses working together, and killing those little robotic critters.

As for newer games, I'd go with the Time Splitters series. Although they lack a solid plot, or at least any really well developed ideas for levels instead of running around in some order, it's got some nice co-op. You have to work together real well or you'll fail a mission and gets saved to your profile. My god there's nothing worst than seeing your success in campaign mode being low.

I always loved beating the stuffing out of my buddies playing brutal Sports Football on the Amiga or Atari Jaguar.

I would have to agree that Contra is one of my favorite co-ops. Others include Ikari Warriors, Twin Cobra, Altered beast, Golden Axe and Gauntlet.

My favorite game that goes both ways would be Cyberball. Playing with a friend on the same team playing against 2 others in Tournament, or just going one vs one. Fun stuff.

and on the DC… Giga Wing which is just chaos on the screen when 2 are palying, and House of The Dead 2 which is the best for me as a co-cop

Bubble Bobble for the NES and Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time for the SNES. The latter is a beat-em-up

Mario Kart for SNES, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Mortal Kombat II for the arcade. The arcade we had in my neighborhood sucked up so much of the local kids' cash, I actually found a quarter from a proof set from the guy at the change counter. Actually, I still have that quarter. (If you're a collector, you collect everything.)

Probably the 5200 version. That always seemed very authentic to me, though I haven't played the arcade version a whole lot actually. The NES version is very good, though.

Another great multi-player game on the NES is Balloon Fight. A great evolution of Joust.

I was just thinking of Balloon Fight. Game is so much fun.

The NES version of Mario Bros. is good. Never played the 5200 version.

I think there's a lot of great co-op games that are kind of obvious if you think about this topic for a minute, so I'll just name a few that might not otherwise get mentioned.

    Atari - Wizard of Wor
    NES- Jackal
SNES- Pocky and Rocky, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Zombies Ate My Neighbors

    Capture the Flag
    - I lost time over how many hours I've dumped into that one back in the day. Seriously, download and try it. It's STILL awesome.

    One Must Fall: 2097
    - Fantastic fighting game that holds up quite well over a decade later. Used to play that sucker against my friends over the modem all the time. I wish I could play at the same level I did back then, but sadly I suck hard now.

There is one co-op game that stands mighty above them all, and is the standard by which all other multiplayer cooperative games must be judged. No, it is not Gauntlet:

    It is System Shock 2.
You are startled by a grim snarl. Before you, you see 1 Red dragon. Will your stalwart band choose to (F)ight or (R)un?
