Wow, I never played EC on the Sega CD until tonite, and I must say, it's a very pleasant suprise. Quite colorful, and great CD sound. This is definitely a worthy Sega CD game to give a whirl.

All the secret characters and fatalities are neato.
So sad they scrapped the Saturn version. That would have been great to see.
You probably know already but it is said to be the only Sega-CD game to use 256 simultanious colors
Actually, I'm under the impression that it does not use 256 actual colors, although it does use lots of single-pixel dither patterns that blend when displayed through stock hardware, giving the illusion of more colors.
And if anyone says that EC:CD uses HAM to increase the color count, I'll kick the shit out of you, as that's completely false.
Are the graphics better than the genny version?
Nah, the graphic level is about the same, but the game has some of the best hidden characters of all time.

That's okay - the genny versions are pretty great
The Characters are about the same, but some of the mor elame backgrounds were scrapped and replaced with better one's. Jetta is a great example of that. That game had so much to do and find. If you dont use a faq or something, you'll most likely never see it all. I sure as hell never did.
Bacon, Bacon, Bacon, IT'S BACON!!!!

Oh yeah! Remember CRISPY!? Your opponent can't hit you with anything but low attacks while fighting off vicious peck attacks.Originally Posted by Blackjax
Man, those were the days. I need to fire this game up again.
At the E3 in 1996 the Sega folks were good enough to get us a beta copy for the fanzine I was working for. We were speaking with one of the reps there and he was showing us some of the overkills and sudden deaths. Instantly we were in awe of the game just due to the sheer number of secrets (it plays better than MK too!).
Unfortunately, that disc is long gone so I've got no idea what was different on it other than all the secret characters were unlocked from the start.
I have much love and respect for EC:CD. We played it at our last classic gaming night but we just couldn't get into the groove of it. It didn't help that I didn't have any of the secret characters unlocked.
And Crispy is one of the coolest characters ever in a fighting game. His backstory is f'n rad. Don't forget Hooter the owl, Slither the snake, Yappy the dog, and Zuni the monkey.
The only fighting game with it's own petting zoo.
