I'm planning on being at this one, at least for a little bit. Anybody else going to be there??

I've got the urge to restore a Gauntlet... That and I still need Missile Command wood to finish out that project.

Define "restore a Gauntlet". I've got Rampart that someone stuck in a Gauntlet II cabinet. I wouldn't mind transplanting it into a regular ol' Jamma cab.

I'd have to make sure that all of the repro art is still available, but pretty much I'd just need the wood and parts associated with holding the cab together. I'd prefer a non hacked control panel, but I could probably deal with a hacked one as well.

Did anyone go to this? What was it like and what did they have?
All right youngens, bath time. Cover up your eyes and drop your britches! Who wants wax?

I didn't go (pretty obviously), but I definitely wish I could've. Word on the pinball newsgroup is that there were several, very decent, classic Sterns (early 80s) there. One guy scored a working Stern Viper. Delicious. *Super jealous*

There's a SuperAuction coming up this weekend in St. Louis and I'm thinking of going. It's many miles from me (4+ hours) and I didn't want to waste a day driving for nothing...BUT, it might be good to go, not buy anything, and just see what they're all about.

Apparently, there was an auction in Dallas this past weekend (?) and one buyer spent $1 on a dead Shinobi conversion. After removing some of the sideart, see what he found underneath:

    Nice.

    Nice.
    Very nice find.

Slightly OT, but the San Jose SA 2 weekends ago was madness (I almost didn't go). Someone actually picked up 10 cocktails for a buck (SJSA rarely sees any sort of deals, let alone something like that...even on complete garbage). I picked up a Virtua Fighter and a 1943 in a Tempest cab (plan on converting it back) for a fair price.

I guess the moral of the story is that you never know when an SA is going to be a hit or miss experience. So my advice is to just make the trip. Besides, they only show up maybe 2-3 times out of the year.

The last Dallas auction was a weird one. Not a lot of stuff there and not a lot of good stuff. But, the prices were pretty low overall. Buddy of mine bought an extremely clean Gravitar. Doesn't look like it had been used since 1985. All it needed was a minor solder reflow on the monitor chassis and it's working 100%.
