Default Nintendo DS save gone?! (NEW Super Mario Bros)

Ok so I was at world 8-1 and saved and went to go eat dinner. I came back a few hours later and turned my DS back on. The save was GONE?!? WTF...

Has anyone had this happen to them with the DS? Doesn't have to be with New SMB.

And can someone explain to me how this could have happened?

    Thanks,
    Carl

yes, this happened to me at least a dozen times when i bought my DS new with dawn of sorrow.

I would save my game, come back and play later. and my save file would revert to the save game BEFORE the last save I did.

Happened to me with Trace memory. I had three saves and all of them were gone. Of course, this was after my one year old had sucked on the cart which I assume was the cause, but it's possible it wasn't. Later I started a new game and when I went to save--I coldn't. I tried several times and each time got an error message.

About a week later I popped the cart (cart? card?) back in the DS and all of my old saves had returned! And I could save!

    Weird, but I ain't complainin'.

I haven't had this problem happen to me, as yet, and I certainly haven't read anything about it. Another first for DP

That must stink, though. I don't suppose you guys were putting the DS into sleep mode?

Can we track this down to a particular model of the DS?

I did not put the DS into sleep mode. I literally saved my game after the castle when I got to 8-1. Exited all the way back to the menu, held the power button down for a sec to turn it off, popped the game card out and put it in its case.

Came back to play later and GONE!

I haven't had this kind of issue with the DS, but I have with the GBA, original model. Metroid fusion used to do that; I'd load up the cart and all my save files would be gone. I'd pull it out and re-insert it and the files would be back. I had the same issue with the original Gameboy Golf while using a GBA.

Now, a couple years ago, I took my NES and entire NES library in to Nintendo of America to have it cleaned, and I believe they replaced the pins in the control deck (no more blinking!?!) They gave me some documentation at that time that said if carts were dirty, or had some alteration on the surface of the connectors, it may interfere the storage and retrieval of saved data. Maybe (and this is just a hunch), certain gold connectors on the carts or DS game cards are directly linked to the save data, such that if they and no other connections are disrupted, the game will load and play okay but save data will not be accessible. Just a theory, but this is how I reconciled what was going on there. Hearing the story about the issues after a 1 year old sucked on the gamecard may support that idea as well.

It happened with my metroid fusion gba after I lost my data. It was never able to save again.

I had to buy another one.
