And it was obviously released on so many systems that no one can figure out which one this particular cartridge is for.
No, that's the fault of the manufacturers of the era for not stating for what platform is it. :P I've seen a ton of similar carts but NONE say the system it's intended for. Bloody annoying.
I agree... Most other companies of the time put the system it was for, on the cart label itself.

Parker Bros. was never good at this practice. Even by looking at the box, it was difficult to decipher what console it was for. The boxes looked the same, no matter what system they were for (except for the 5200 - the boxes were a little more on the gold side). The stickers that told you what system you were buying it for was on the outside of the shrinkwrap. So once you take off that cellophane, you're screwed.

And another question - why did Parker Bros. have the rights to Frogger? Sega was developing software for all platforms of the time - How did Parker Brothers get the Frogger liscense? And they were good about labeling their carts!

That is *SUCH* a C64 cart. The pin count on C64 carts *should* be 21 or 22, with 2 gaps in the placement.

I might end up going blind or growing hair on my palms for doing this, but years ago, I wrote a Retrogaming Times article regarding telling the difference between C64 and Inty carts:

/Has all 7 PB C64 carts CIB, thankyouverymuch..

This was pre-Sega domination. Sega wasn't a big home console player in those days. Parker had aquired the rights for the cartridge version of the original Frogger, whilst Sierra on Line got the home computer versions (disc and/or tape), and Starpath had rights for producing a cassette version for VCS via Supercharger. I guess later Parker got the rights for Frogger II: Threeedep, as they had the original cartridge rights for Frogger.

Parker did an original game here. There is no Frogger 2 machine, they created something new based on the license (much in the same way Ocean did in the future with the Renegade license).
