    Default Lumines Mobile

I was playing around on Verizon's Get it Now with my new VX9800 and to my surprise saw that Lumines Mobile had been released.

Has anyone else had a chance to play this yet? I can say it's pretty much the best game, original or otherwise, that I've played on a cell phone. The music is great and the graphics keep up with the PSP counterpart pretty well. The only real complaint (other than the horrible control schemes on cell phones) would be the clunky piece movement.

Anyway, the mobile version seems to be giving a sneek peak at some of the new features and levels we can expect in Lumines 2, Lumines Live, and Lumines PS2. There are several new types of pieces, straight lines and "Z" shaped blocks similiar to Tetris. At first I was turned off by these new pieces but they're growing on me. Also new are several types of individual blocks that can blast out a 3x3 section of any colored blocks, blast straight lines (horizontal or vertical), crystal blocks that can adapt to the color you need to clear out a section, and a block that will smash out a whole 4 wide row when you drop it. Also new is the addtion of a 3rd color on some stages.

Also cool on the mobile version is leaderboards and online verses play. So in a way, this versions even better than the PSP! If you check the leaderboards, I'm under "Blissful". I just starting messing around with it a couple of days ago but I'm in the top 10 on a few boards as of right now.

This is a great teaser for all the new Lumines offerings coming down the pipe and if you're a fan of the original game, you should be downloading the mobile version right after you read this.

I got the Sony W800i earlier this week (which I love, by the way), and the first thing I did was to buy Lumines Mobile. I concur with much of what you said. From my limited experience of mobile games, this is by far the best I've played. Even the music is pretty good, I thought.

It plays well, the game keeps up nicely and if you can get used to the controls - you're on to a winner!

Now, when I'm out on business, I've got my phone, e-mails, Internet, MP3s, camera and games in my pocket. Lovely

I'll wait for Puzzle Fighter... but Lumines is damned tempting.

Even if Puzzle Fighter hits the cell phone, I doubt they'll do anything new with it but instead offer the same experience that's on the PS1/Saturn/GBA and soon the PSP (Capcom Puzzle Collection). Though online verses would be nice.

My recommendation stems from the fact that this isn't Lumines as an identical version or facsimile of the PSP game, but this is "more" Lumines that extends on the original. It doesn't have the raw amount of skins that the PSP version has, but it has some original ones and the new levels change up the Lumines formula dramatically.

Add online leaderboards and online verses play and this is really an outstanding offering, cell phone or otherwise. Oh, I didn't mention, they're offering new skins to download for free once you buy the game. Three are available now. One is a carry over from the PSP version, the other two are original.

I wish half of the released console games would give you as much as Lumines Mobile does.

While the cell phone isn't exactly the optimal platform for gaming, this is a stellar buy and it shows the potential for publishers to offer something truly compelling to play on mobile phones instead of yet another card game or poor arcade port.

I’ll boil it down. If you have access to download this game and consider yourself a fan of the original, you need to be playing this.

Took 1st place on the 180s time attack board. I'm pretty proud of that, it took a long time to do.

    Anyone else playing this yet?

    Yep:

It says June but I still don't see it. I dropped them an e-mail so hopefully I'll find out when it's due.

It plays differently from what I read. Basically, to save airtime, you play a round for so long. Afterwards, the pieces you and your opponent broke drop in for the start of the next round. It's a decent compromise in the end I guess, though it radically changes the way you play the game.

Sounds interesting. If it does come out, I might just go for it. Lumines Mobile really impressed me.

    Thanks for the info, sir.

Well I'll be damned, it is online. I can play a mean game of Puzzle Fighter too.

    Until then... more Lumines.

Got this from Capcom (damned fast response!):

Thank you for your e-mail. Super Puzzle Fighter II: Network Battle will launch on the first week of August and will be available on majority of Verizon handsets.

Thank you for playing CAPCOM games and for your continued support.

    Post Lumines Mobile Leaderboards

    Hi all,

I'm looking around for Lumines Mobile leaderboards and have heard said that there's a Time Attack leaderboard around somewhere. Anyone know where this is? Is it a paid Gameloft.com feature?
