    Default Gamebit not fitting?

I dunno if anyone else has had this issue, but I'll go ahead.

I got the gamebit head in the mail today from Vader (thanx man!) so I decided to try it out in the screwdriver set I got (has 2 dozen heads). Problem was, it didn't fit!

It fit in the screwdriver no problem but didn't fit in the hole where the gamebit screw is on a NES cart (I know Tengen carts require different bits I've noticed). Anyone else experience this?

There is a different bit for carts and systems.

Little off topic, but is there a bit that can get those deeply imbedded Virtual Boy screws?

The bit I got from Vader is a 3.8mm gamebit. He said it was the security bit to open up NES carts with.

I got a bit like that late last year. Mine didn't fit quite right in the cartridge shell either. It was a little bit too wide.

BUT, as none of my carts were particularly rare/valuable, and I don't really collect NES stuff very much, I went ahead and shoved the bit in anyway. It is still usable, it just shaves the hole in the plastic out a tiny bit. Aside from the plastic dust the initial unscrewing generates, it's no problem.

There are two "brands" in my experience. The standalone bits you buy seem to be prone to this size problem. I got a pair of gamebits that were part of an entire sucurity bit/driver set from Sylentwulf. The gamebits in that set were way better, and fit into carts like butter.

It seems YMMV with these bits.

I have the stand-alone bits and didn't really notice a problem, save for like one or two carts. After a few uses though I noticed they fit in the [Cornholio] screw holes [/Cornholio] in general better, though.

I bought the stand along version from MCM years ago and I haven't had any problem fitting either. Maybe something changed during the production?

And I'd like to know about the deep screw hole in the VB cuz one of my VB's left eye isn't working at all.

Where you get these bits anyhow?

What other sizes are there that will actually fit in a NES cart?

MCM electronics. I have an account with them, I can just return the bit if it is defective.

    Thanks

If the bits are just a little too big, you could use a bench grinder to grind a bit off. That's what I had to do to my screwdriver when it wouldn't fit in SNES console holes on the back.

Just saw this post. Quick note, the bits fit in a LOT of NES carts VERY tightly, no matter what bit you buy. It's not that the bit is too big, the problem is that it's EXACTLY the right size, so you do have to twist it in and kinda force it in there sometimes. Haven't ever really damaged a cart this way, but no guranatees on that since I haven't opened a hwole lot of NES carts either
