Seems to be a common occurance over there in the states. So far no reports on that happening to Japanese or European gamers.

I've got my DS Lite for nearly a month and no problems.

I'm glad I haven't got one, the thing is... What's next? DS Lighter? and it'll be the size of a seed. I'll stick with the original.

Much like everything on the internet, people take isolated situations and blow them way out of proportion.

No problems with my DS Lite, for the record

No problem with either of my Lites. One was imported from Japan, and the other was bought a week after launch in Europe.

This does freak me out a little, though. I guess this is the first bit of bad publicity Nintendo has had in ages.

Suprise, suprise. A portable game system used a lot by kids can develop a problem.

Wow whats next, is the Wii going to explode when it you try to make toast with it.

The NUMBER ONE failure in DS's that OSG gets inquiries about is cracked hinges on original Nintendo DS's. Seems like a minor repair, but it's major, as the entire shell must be replaced.

No DS Lites with cracked hinges yet.

What I don'tget is how much abuse it has to get before they crack. IMO the DS Lite's hinge is much more solidly built that the orig DS.

What those people on those forums probably didnt mention is that they were dropped first. I'm sure they didn't just up and crack out of the blue.

This=Bullshit. The DS has been out for a little while, why is this becoming a problem now? because one guy dropped his (or something) and decided to post it online for everyone to see. People see this and immediatly think, " OMG...every DS is gonna break...its a horrible system" Talk spreads around, information gets fucked up and here we are. From experience, I can say Nintendo's products are built like tanks (aside from the piece of trash that still plays awesome games known the world over as the original NES) I sware to God my Gamecube's bulletproof.

I have the blue Nintendogs version of the DS and I do have a crack on the right side hinge. I have never dropped my DS and it is always in a padded case when not in use. That being said, It really doesn't seem to be a problem. When I first noticed it I checked it out and the hinge is still stable and not coming apart. So it seems to be caused by regular opening and closing of the DS.

Laptops get cracked hinges, when I was in the habit of fixing and reselling them for a summer season I saw this with some frequency. Are there a few people who abuse their electronics? Sure. Does that therefore make the resilience of those hinges infallible? Hell no.

Give this incident a month for people to see the thread and start checking their own DS Lites for something they might not have noticed otherwise. I bet everyone who called 'bullshit' in here quietly checked theirs first. In another year or two, it will be very interesting to see what happens. To see something like this so early on in the product's lifespan does not bode well to me, imo.

Yes, mine has the crack. I wouldn't have even noticed if it weren't for me reading about it elsewhere. It botheres me only in that I've taken very good care of my DS.

It seems as though this crack is NOT covered by Nintendo's warranty and that if you want them to fix it, it'll cost you $50.
