Default Megaman 2 and 3 soundtrack

I love it. This is probably my most favorite soundtrack ever in video game history. I can't think of anything else that tops it. It's like they took Iron Maiden, made them 8-bit, and put it on an NES cart.

Its not usual that games have so many cool tunes as the Mega Man games for NES got.

I totally agree. After playing mega man 2 I can never get the music out of my head. Those "midi-licious" tunes really stick with you.

My favorite selections from Mega Man 2 are the Bubble Man theme and the Flash Man theme. I remember going to Bubble Man's stage and setting the controller down just to let the music play.

I'll have to pick that soundtrack up... if I can locate it.

Wiley Stage 1 Music from Mega Man 2 = Probably one of the best video game tunes ever.

    Ever.

That tune is indeed very great, but the best ever? Not in my opinion

I love MM2 and its music but it seems like MM3 is always stuck living in MM2's shadow. I personally think MM3's title screen music blows MM2's away.

I was just about to mention this. The music at the title screen is just gorgeous. I blows my mind that the soundtrack is killer and it's on an 8-bit system.

What always amazes me about the soundtracks to games like these are the levels of music production involved. Given that they are working within a limited synthesizer range and have to create a piece of music that is at once recognizable enough to capture the feel of the stage, but also not so droningly repetitive that you want to poke out your eardrums on the 50th trip through, that's no small feat.

As an aside, it seemed like the best music resided firmly with the Capcom titles (mainly Mega Man and Disney games) or Konami (Contra, Castlevania, Jackal, etc.), which made great games even better. It's just a shame that it's such a lost art form when you can just plug in popular hit X these days (not that it detracts from games like GTA or THPS that do this ).

I always favored the music in Metal Man's stage.

Well yeah, that's why I said it was one of the best. It's up there, but not at the top.

I mean, I can totally imagine myself running around as a little blue robot killin' shit to that music.

I love the music in the opening scene of megaman 2 when it starts off slow and its going up the building then you see megaman without his helmet on the roof and it speeds up and gets intense and his hair's all blowin in the wind...after that your just like "This game is gonna be AWESOME". Megaman games do have some great tunes

I loved the music in Dr. Wily stages of Mega Man 3! Man, I thought I was the only one too. I wish Capcom would release a special soundtrack or something.

It kinda makes sense that the designers would put so much efort into the game when you consider that in Japan the game is called rockman and Hideo Kojima has stated in interviews that his inspiration for making the franchise was he wanted a game that could accent and be enhanced by rock style music. but comon people Nobou is the best when it comes to MIDI tracks and 8-bit sound programing. We ALL recognize the music even if we don't know from what.

Yep.. Rockman. The guy said the reason he's called ROCKman is because of the game's music. i.e. "Rock and Roll".

Although I wouldn't exactly label the really good NES tunes as rock and roll, I guess I'll accept it since he is the designer after all

lol, the music will give you strength
The music when you get a new wepon in MM3, that is damn sweet. Its only a short loop tho, but i can listen to it for probly 30 min without getting tired. I also found an old tape with this musictrack. I had recorded it directly from TV and i remember walking around with it in my walkman haha. Loved it when i was a kid, and still loving it

Megaman 2 is probably my favorite soundtrack overall, but nothing matches the greatness of the Duck Tales "moon level"

I absolutely adore Mega Man music. One of my favorites is the song in the third stage of Dr. Wily's castle in Mega Man III.

For everyone's enjoyment, I'll post a link to something I stumbled across a couple of years ago, although you might have heard of it...

Basically, the music reinterpreted with actual instruments. Some of it is kind of "meh", but other parts are amazing. Check it out.

Hideo Kojima had nothing to do with Mega Man, by the way.
