Default Joining the dark side (DMD pinball)

A local ad, a 15 minute drive, one sold soul, and now I've included my first DMD (dot-matrix display) pin into the collection. I swore I'd never do it. I've always felt that the gameplay (and artwork) was so much better on solid state era games (mostly 80s games, with some late 70s and early 90s exceptions). I hated the endless theme licensing found in 98% of games in the DMD era. It was all so horrible, so un-classic. Yet now, I've bought in.

The game is Checkpoint by Data East, and has the honor of being the first DMD pin ever (not just in my place). It's an average player with an average racing theme (though, the cars are obviously Porsches, even with tiny logos on them), but it was a steal and just two towns over. It runs just fine, but needs a serious shop job. I thought about cleaning it up and selling/trading it, but it turns out that MsNinja and I enjoyed playing it.

The good? Never pass up a good deal on a pin. The bad? This opens the flood-gates of my formerly "Solid State games only" rule to now include DMDs since I've got one. And there are other DMDs that I dig out there, I've just always had an excuse to avoid them. Now, they'll probably be welcome :P

I think Checkpoint is a pretty fun game... I've still got mine, but I agree that 80's pins are the best (Williams System 7 and 11's are my favorites).

No pictures yet? You realize so many of us here have to live vicariously through your pinball machines

As I was telling someone else, once I clean out the last of my projects and stored away stuff, I'll take some pictures. I'm trying to get down to a stable lineup (which is a total joke, because it seems to change at least every other week) of 25 games (10 pins, 15 vids) for now. Of course, this could change by time I get to the picture taking point.

Heh, yeah... I've been trying to get down to the 25 game mark for a while... like yours, my collection seems to change every week, and it seems to grow faster than it shrinks .

I actually have almost NO room now, so I haven't even been looking at ebay or Craigslist for fear of buying something else :P .
