    Default SNES Honey Bee

What exactly is the Honey Bee. What exactly does it do? Also, how much would one of those things cost?

It let you play JAP games on a NTSC (US) console. I have no idea how much they are.

I'd kinda like one. Not that I think I'd use it, but I am a big SNES collector (at least I'd like to think so).

I'm thinking $10 to $15 for one. You place the import game in top of the adapter and plug a US cart into the back. I like the Honeybee. It's always worked well for me playing NTSCJ ond/or PAL games. Here's a pic of mine....

Are you sure it isn't for the regular NES? That one is gold.

And why do you have to plug an american cart into the back of the SNES honey bee? What's the difference between this and just cutting the tabs on the SNES so that you can insert an SFC cart directly into the system?

I was wondering that myself and figured it had something to do with PAL games--like Spartacus said.

A converter with only one cartridge port is simply a extension to bypass the plastic "lockout" when trying to play a Japanese game on a US SNES and vice versa.

If the converter has two cartridge slots, like the ones pictured above, it can also do PAL<->NTSC conversion. Because NTSC and PAL carts use different lockout chips, the converter fools the SNES by reading the lockout chip from the domestic game, before switching to the import one.

I used one back in the day to play NTSC games on my PAL SNES console. Same as the one shown on the photo in this thread but the box it came in was pink and not blue as shown.
