Default Features of a modded Xbox 360?

I was looking online about a modded Xbox 360

    Does anyone have one?
    What can it do?
I tried to find modchips online for them, but came up empty.

    Thanks for the help.

Right now you can play a few bootlegged games, but that's it. The copyprotection for the 360 is quite a bit better than the Xbox's and while an exploit is available today, it's probably not going to work in the near future. Microsoft learned a lot of lessons (the hard way) with the Xbox and their approach this generation is going to make it an interesting uphill fight for hackers.

So yea, I wouldn't really think of doing any modifications to your 360 anytime in the near future. Wait a few years.

I think a few years is way too long. Come on, there are people who think that their sole purpose in life is to pirate M$. After searching, I found this site:

I don't think there is a mod chip available for the 360 yet. My knowledge of 360 hacking is pretty limited, but from what I've read I know there is a softmod you can do but it's a real tricky process and you can screw your 360 up permanently if you do it wrong. Once you do this though, I'm pretty sure you can play any backup 360 game because cracking the actual games is pretty easy.

Currently you can play copies without fear of being banned from Live, but it's very possible Microsoft can release an update to Live in the future that can detect if you are using cracked games & hardware. As of now though, there is no way for them to tell.

Its a firmware mod there are a couple people on DP that have done it. You can only play copies so any cool homebrew ideas have yet to be reached.

Yea, until it's possible to run unsigned code and some real homebrew applications (though that NES emulator hack was pretty interesting!), I don't see a valid reason to mod...unless you really, really don't like paying for games.

Isn't this one of the main reasons people do mod?

The main reason, I modded my Xbox was to use the emulator. That was awesome. All the games I ever wanted right there. Too bad I sold mine..

The current features of a modded xbox 360 are this.

It allows you to download games off the internet, burn em to dvd and play them for free (the cost of the dual layer disc notwithstanding).

    That's about it

Just because people aren't being banned right this second for using the modded firmware on the 360, don't automaticly assume that microsoft isn't tracking who's using it.

If people were banned the moment the modded firmware was detected, then less pirates would get caught. It would make far more sense for them to throw the switch later and ban all the pirates at once.

And i for one will have no sympathy for those who are banned, as was said above... the only reason to mod your 360 right now is purely for piracy.

Nope - Xbox Media Center too. XBMC made my television interesting again

Right, the Region X, dongle free, progressive-scan DVD player mod was a big plus when I got my original (Korean, Halo green) Xbox modded. But mostly it was so I wouldn't have to worry about region lockouts when I got back to the states. The emulators have been a real boost, also.
    Chronogamer. Every game. Chronologically.

XBMC wasn't the reason I modded my Xbox, it was the reason I bought it in the first place, heh. I have a multi-region DVD collection and was upset that my Phillips DVP642 wasn't cutting the mustard for it Also, my wife was into fansubbed anime, so it was nice for her to be able to watch it on the tv instead of her laptop (streamed wirelessly over the home network! woo!).

I really, really need to play with Mednafen-X and see how it is. Hell, Mednafen is the only PCE CD emulator I use on PC anymore. Shame the GBA emulation isn't quite right, but I didn't really expect it to be given the Xbox's CPU...I may have to break down and buy a GBA Player afterall.

For me the worst thing about installing modchips is the risk, what happens if I mess up my $400 baby?

I remember when the 1st mod chips came out for xbox, so many people were soldering for the first time!! I wouldnt mine, but when they came out they were like 16 wires to solder.

There's no reason peer to peer piracy should be illegal, unless somone profits from it, which no one does.

    IMO

Don't go there... its a can of worms you don't want to open. Its been debated to death before. Nothing good comes out of that argument.

Well, just to be very, very brief and point out a big-ass hole in that arguement, lots of p2p apps come with built-in spyware and adware, which some companies pay to put on there. In other words, profit IS being made. The end.
