Default Nintendo Power - Is it a subscription magazine only ?

Reason I ask is that I can't get hold of a copy anywhere (I'm in the UK). I've requested it on many US forums, but to no avail. I'm left thinking that it's not available to buy in stores & therefore people aren't willing to take out a subscription to help out a fellow gamer overseas.

eBay hasn't really been much help. When the odd issue does appear, the seller always wants at least $15 shipping - twice the usual rate.

AFAIK, a subscription is not required to get the magazine. I've seen it on newsstands here in the US.
RIP bargora, you will be greatly missed. That is how we do things on Giedion Prime.

The magazine really is "worthwhile" for only one thing, and that is the promotional items that occasionally come in it.

Now that they no longer support the e-Reader (and are not giving out e-Reader cards in the magazine), their promo items have all been complete crap - like goofy stickers of the afro-dude from Wario Ware and asinine garbage like that. They have not had a good promo item in years.

The EON Ticket and the CD with the Super Smash Bros music were the best. Even the promo items you get for buying a subscription are now crap - like that one Zelda collection bonus disc for buying Wind Waker + subscription...that was great. But now all they offer you is a free game guide - whoop-de-frickin'-doo.

And too many ads? The entire magazine basically IS an ad - for Nintendo. It always has been.

My subscription has now lapsed, and I have no intention of really renewing.

Thats what they've been offering for subscriptions forever, its only very rarely that you'd get a game or something else. Its kind of funny, one of my friends renewed his subscription a few years back and actually managed to get the SNES Nintendo Power Chrono Trigger guide as his free one!

Yeah it a propoganda rag, but it beats the crap out the official Xbox magazine which is pretty crappy. The latest issue has a pretty good article on Rayman Raving Rabbids incuding interview bits with the creator...

Back when the original Dragon Warrior came out on the NES, Nintendo offered it as the free promotional item for subscribing or re-subscribing to Nintendo Power.

Yeah, I've got my older sister's original envelope that NP sent out with a letter about the game and some maps and such for resubscribing.

You used to be able to get game soundtracks too IIRC... back in the SNES/N64 days.
    Egbert, I miss you...

Hehe like the old PC mags (and possibly new). I remember buying some PC games years and years ago. There were 1 page or article, then 1 full page of adverticing. Like 50% of the whole magazine was commercials, seriously.

I was quite frustrated that I could not find it in newsstands back in the day. It was pretty hard to find.

But I see it fairly frequently now... especially since it is suffused with ads.

The subscription card inside the magazine always only offers the players guides, but if you subscribe via the Nintendo Power website, they also offer promotional tshirts. In fact, I just checked it out and there's a sweet-looking blue GameBoy Micro shirt. I might resubscribe sooner than usual.
I first subscribed when they were offering the Legend of Zelda Collector's Disk as a promo. I've resubscribed twice since and got a Pikmin 2 shirt and a DS shirt.

Also, to the original poster, Nintendo Power is a North American only publication. If you look at the website, when you select subscribe, it only gives options for US and Canada. So your only option would be eBay or anywhere else online someone will sell back issues. Or move to America . I know it's scary - we drive on the left side of the car and the right side of the road and we've bastardized the English language, but other than that it's not so bad LMAO.
