So I see Craigs List posting for brand new XBOX 360's for cheap. The people say that they acquire these for free and want the cash instead.
Any chance that these are legitimate? What's the scam here?

Well, in some cases there has got to be a scam a-foot, but other times it may be that they recived one as a gift and they just flat out dont want it, and if they put the price cheaper than retail, they know they can get some cash pretty quickly for it. When buying on CL, make sure you only buy from people who you're willing to meet up with. Never buy from someone who wants to ship, and you're probably never going to be scammed.

Make sure that shit is factory sealed, and make sure you open it in front of them to make sure it's not a brick inside.
People are selling them at low low prices on my craigslist as well.

Here is an ad in my local Craigslist:
He is selling a sealed 360 premium + 4 sealed un-named games + an extra wireless controller for $325. Says there that he won't do "meetups" so I assume that he wants to ship it, and he only takes cash.i dont do meetups or dropoffs due to getting jumped by 3 guys in ski masks... and then wiping out my bank account.. which is why i dont have a banka account anymore. so all i accept is cash. This is complete in the Retail box and all the games are still shrink wrapped, and the extra Microsoft Wireless Controller still in the blister pack. Nothing has been opened at all. These are 100% completely brand new.
Scam?
Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
Now here is another one:
Now I am going to guess that this guy doesn't have any XBoxes, and that the point of the ad is to get you to click on that URL. So if I e-mail the guy, he is going to tell me sorry, but the XBoxes are gone, but that I should check out that link to hook myself up with one. I mean, come on, he is selling them but then telling you how to get one for free? How subtle. For sale I have two Microsoft XBOX 360 core systems both brand new in their original box. I got these both free through a website online and I already have one of my own at home so I can afford to let them go here at a bargain price.
These are both the core systems which come only with one controller. They are both new in their original box, ready to be opened and played. I will ship them to you if absolutely necessary.
I got these for free through http://www.liveloaded.com - not a referral site either they just teach you how to get free stuff with no strings attached, it's pretty cool I was surprised it actually worked
Please contact me as soon as possible if you're interested, these are being sold first come first serve and once they are gone they are gone.
Thank you!
Chris
I have seen the same thing in my local Craigslist. The same person keeps reposting the same thing every day that he has a 360 he got for free and wants to sell for $175. I am pretty sure its a scam.
I'd like to think that in this day and age, with all of the internet scams floating around like turds in a toilet bowl that this sort of thing would be easier to spot. The 'cash-only, no meetups' is a dead giveaway, and the link in the other example sounds like a sales pitch almost immediately.
"If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
Words to live by. Stereotypes and sweeping generalizations haven't survived this long for nothing.
Even in the days of free iPods and shit, I'd rather just pay for it straight-up and go about my business with dignity and the satisfaction and peace of mind that a dozen more companies don't know all of my personal information.
Here an internet provider is giving a 360 for 99$ if you hook up with them for 3 years..
not a bad deal, if you like that provider.
anyone got a quarter?
my feedback! http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56175
I thought I'd mention I have seen the exact same post word-for-word on my local Craigslist. I don't know if it's a full blown scam or not, but it's not what it claims to be either.

I suspect this is the situation.
