niiiiiiiiiiiiiice
I just watched the whole thing, and it was awesome. It gave me a whole new perspective on how some things came about. I found it very interesting to hear how Miyamoto got his inspiration for Zelda, among other things.
Very cool watch. Thank you for posting this. Are there more episodes from this one, or was it just a one-time documentary? I'd love to have a download in better quality if there was one.
My first PC games and favorite game of all-time.
Saw it years ago on the discovery channel.
Still good stuff
Bits of it were shown on UK TV, but this one's better.
Nice to see some Codemasters history, Oliver Twins, Darling Bros, they did do excellent games.
Cool stuff, tnx for the link I just watched the whole thing.
Not a bad one -- I have this one on a tape somewhere.
And I always thought that the inclusion of Codemasters in there rather baffling, considering the total length of the documentary (in a longer multipart documentary, it makes sense, but not in what's a condensed Videogame History 101 documentary).
im guessing since it is on the discovery channel, that it was produced by the BBC, and if that is true, there would be a greater chance of them propping up british game companiesOriginally Posted by Lady Jaye
Yeah, that was the conclusion I came to when I first saw the documentary... especially since Codemasters was never that big a player on the North American market.
I guess Codemasters was a obvious choice, but I seem to recall the UK version I saw on TV they included the guys from Imagine (gotta check the vid, it's packed up in the attic. Could be mixing it up with some other program, not sure).
Also, the UK version had more on Taito, and how the coder based Space Invaders on Breakout.
While it might sem odd that codemasters was chosen, im glad they highlighted games development in the UK. What most Video games history wirte ups often forget that there was no video games crash outside of America. Games were still massive here in the uk, as we all conned our parents into buying computers, thinking it was for our education, when really we just wanted to play games.
I saw this a few years ago. It was my first exposure to any of the history of Shigeru Miyamoto. Very good documentary.
I liked it, I thought the addition of the code masters was random and very educational, because I had no idea what was going on in Europe at that time until I watched this. Yet I think it was just showing the rise of young programmers at that time. Hats off to the British for helping the world rise back up!
I did love how Miyamoto keeps coming back to his childhood to explain where Zelda and Mario came from. I like how he studied everything that was out there and then came back with a cartoon-like character. Seems like he felt the games didn't have much of a storyline or charateristics for the heroes or enemies in the game.
Alexey P. Simplistic man with a solid program, in the middle of an angry Russian/Dutch/Japanese Mini-War but wow that's sad he didnt get much money until 1996 for Tetris?
